One among many examples of exaggeration of the casualties that were so common in the OT is I Samuel 6:19 -
And he smote the men of Bethshemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
How long does it take for 50,070 guys to look in a box? And how big a town was Bethshemesh to have 50,070 men to look in one?

The numbers remind me of the body counts in Vietnam back when Johnson was in office....

Not all 50,070 looked in the ark. That is the number God deemed fitting to pay for the offense.
I stand corrected. Nice guy, this God fellow. Avram looks in the box, so 25,034 of his neighbors die. Cool.
How many people would you think might have lived in Bethshemesh prior to this little bit of genocide? How many in all of Israel?

Re: Well, it's a fable, a fairytale
Understood perfectly, Jar. It just appears that our "inerrantists" don't understand it that way at all. "Mice" and "emerods" make perfect sense in terms of a bit of bubonic plague, and it's reasonable to think that the Bethshemites caught it from the ark-stealers, and some villagers died. They just used their magical thinking to ascribe the whole thing to looking in a particularly holy box.
Oral tradition ----> exaggeration -----> written records with differing numbers. It happened a lot back then.

Re: minor differences
that evos reject the accounts of giant human beings, tribes of people over 8' tall, out of mere biasness,
Well, rindman, if "biasness" is a new word for "complete lack of evidence," perhaps you have something there.
Find me a bone from a nine-foot human. And no, rindman, not the oversized "cast" of a four-foot femur that's at the creationist "museum" in Crosbyton, Texas. That one's too pathetic for words.

Re: info in giants
Josephus tells of a heifer giving birth to a sheep as she was brought into the temple to be sacrificed. {Josephus, Wars 6.5.3 288-299) Seems pretty reliable, huh?

Re: info in giants
It was a Jewish heifer, too. Not Christian. Jewish sheep, too, I suppose.

Re: minor differences
I then began adding them and comparing them, but gave up as I quickly realized that the innaccuracies in the Mazoretic easily exceeded the innaccuracies in the Septuagint.
I'm late to the party, I know, but how, exactly, do you tell which of the two is the "inaccurate" one? Seriously, I'd like to know.

Re: info in giants
This seems to be a pattern on your part. When you find data that contradicts your stance, rather than change your stance or address the data, you try switching the topic, and sometimes misrepresenting the data.
Holy crap! Potkettleblackism just reached a new height! Rindman, you're amazing!

The following skip codes were NOT found anywhere in the Torah.
"Buddha Messiah""Mohammed Messiah""Jesus the false Messiah"
My software found "Curly Howard is the True Messiah and Larry and Moe are his Prophets."
So he's DA MAN!

Re: Back on point
You were not there in the past. To put it bluntly, you don't know.
But you were there, and do know how tall ancient Philistines were? I don't believe you.
But I'll bet the rent that there are archaeologists that know, and I'll bet a sixpack of Pilsner Urquell that they ran shorter than today.
