Re: Giants?
Things get exaggerated.
So, no. we can't depend on the stories to be more than tall tales without independant confirmation.
I had heard previously that the 4 cubits and a span was 6'4".
It was an article that was discussing the possiblity that Goliath had Marafans syndrome.

Re: minor differences
Why does it have to be all incidences
It is enough that 4QSam has it, as well as some copies of the
Greek Septuagint.
I will point out that the tallest man in modern ages was 8'11 inches, and he stayed alive as long as he did because of modern medicine. He also had to have braces just to walk.. a technology they didn't have in that time period.

Re: Giants?
You know.. I bet that you can not find a good archelogical site for that. Nor will you be able to find any objective peer reviewed evidence for anybody who is 9 feet tall.
Let's see your source for your claim that tools that match nine feet tall people have been found. I have this sneaking suspection it is a religious site whose statement of faith is in the inerrancy of the bible.

Re: minor differences
Yao Ming is 7'5". That is not anywhere near 9 feet tall.

Re: minor differences
And where is this evidence? You keep on claiming this is evidence.. yet.. you have not shown a source for your claim.
Why is that?

Re: info in giants
The caption on the photo said 'Ron Wyatt'.
Which means, that, of course, it has not been examined for peer review.

Re: info in giants
I suspect that 'THumb Bone' photographed by Ron Wyatt. Of course, it was just an animal bone, and not a human thumb bone,... but that is besides the point.

Re: fallibility
And, how do you provide evidence of this? If we don't have the original, how can you prove what the 'inerrent' version is? If the copies the were written afterwards had errors, why consider the 'originals' to be without errors to begin with, since there is no way for what the original actually said to be known?

Re: Now where did I leave that Holy Book?
Definately not the Septugaint.
I would say none is the 'original'. The Tanakah was not 'canonised' until much later.

Re: Now where did I leave that Holy Book?
Why, yes, we can PROVE the fact of evolution 100%. What can not be proved 100% is the MECHANISM of how evolution works. This is different between the fact that evolution happens (a fact that can be proven, and the Theory of evolution (which are a variety of different models to describe on how it happens.

Re: need
And how do you know that it is the 'preserved original meaning'? What IS the "Preserved original meaning"? So many different groups have different ideas about what that it, how can you say if any one is right or not? They all CLAIM they are the one that is inspired by god.

Now, what does the torah say about Salvation.
How does the Torah justify the CHristian concept of Salvation?
Since the Jewish faith does not believe in the Christian concept of Salvation, what is the justification you have for salvation?
YOu say you will take the 'Torah' over the Talmud. Do you understand what the Talmud is? If so, can you describe your understanding of what the Talmud is?

Re: Now where did I leave that Holy Book?
quote:
There are Christians who consider themselves Israelites (spiritual Israel) who acknowledge Genesis 3:15 to be the first messianic prophecy.
I am sure. Why does so many people disagree? How can you justify that from the text itself, rather than reading into the text.
quote:
The Torah - actually all of the OT, tells of the coming Messiah.
Does it? Can you justify it from the texts themselves , rather than using the New Testament to read into the text? Discuss chapter and verse , without resorting to later writings.
quote:
he Jewish faith is very much so interested in a Messiah, just not in mine.
Not all Jewish sects think there will be a 'star' messiah. The concept of what the messiah will be is also very different in Judaism than in Christainity.
quote:
The Talmud is commentary.
Not a very complete response. Do you really understand what it is? Expand on the concept, and be a bit more exact.

Re: Now where did I leave that Holy Book?
I have a horror of vague references to things being called a discussion, much less a debate. I don't think unsupported claims, or vague references show what you are actually trying to say and support.
