Ezekiel 1 has been described as an encounter with a UFO, an argument made by the likes of Erich von Daniken. I don't think his views have much credibility in either scientific or religious circles, but there might be a topic for a new thread here, unless the subject has already been discussed at length.

When I was in college, I remember taking a US History course in which one of the texts gave an example of how an early explorer who had never seen one before might describe a baseball game. It was quite funny. It's easy to forget that someone from a culture or technological era different from our own would describe his or her world as well as ours in very different words from the ones we're used to using today.

The black was used for the spaces between and around the letters. I remember seeing stuff like that as part of a self-esteem unit that my class was taught in 8th-grade math.
