Your view of 'sin' is much more jewish. I think the majority of Christians view 'sin' either as an object, or a state that someone is in. The state of sin, the state of Grace. The jewish belief that both sin and rightousness are the results of actions. By his actions he is made rightous, by his actions he is sinful.
One Jewish interpretation of the adam and eve story is that God purposely set Adam and Eve up, so they would have the opportunity to become more like God. Before the 'knowledge of good and evil' was there, they didn't know enough to realise they did wrong. Once they had the abilty, they are given the opportunity to exercise the ability, and by choose 'good', they are able to lead 'more sanctified lives', and therefore become close to God. How does that interpretation flow with your basic belief system?
