Re: Is GOD cruel?
Next thing you know, you'll be full of regrets and condescension.
I've got plenty of regrets. One doesn't have to be religious to have regrets.
And I think I can hold my own in the field of condescension.

Re: The Case of the Inexplicably Called "Unexplainable" Missing Stump
They're all in on it. The roofers, the neighbours, your relatives, and the home-owners association. It's one big conspiracy. The only one who doesn't know is you.
You may be right. It may have been like a gift to me because I'm so wonderful. After all, I was glad the stump was gone.
You did it yourself in a drunken stupor, in the wee hours of the night. Now that you are sober, you don't remember anything about it. (You are sober, aren't you?)
It would be rather difficult to remove a stump with a shovel when one is drunk. Yes, I am sober--dangerously sober.
Your wife reared your car into it. She had the car repaired and the stump removed to cover up the evidence.
If she reared a car into this stump which was thirty feet away from the driveway, then SHE must have been drunk out of her mind. She would have had to have been so at about 10:00 am because it would taken that long to get all that done by the time I got home.
I'll go with theory #1.

Re: The Case of the Inexplicably Called "Unexplainable" Missing Stump
Or, your wife or somebody had it removed and isn't letting on just so they can mess with your brain.
No, I think it's something they did because I'm so wonderful.
Since joining evc, I've learned the value of boasting. I always thought it was ill-mannered, but obviously I was raised in a barn.
Now I know the rationale of boasting comments. If one boasts, one shows that one loves oneself and one has self-esteem. Now, if you cannot love yourself, you cannot love others. This I have learned here on evc. I ought to have taken a course in Pop Psychology 101, but I failed to do that, and so I learned it belatedly here. Many posters have solemnly affirmed that one must love oneself, and that this indeed is the key to the Golden Rule, and I am doing that now. I hug myself frequently.
So I think you will agree that I am making progress.

There was no room in the inn
The Holiday Inns are very full at that time of year.

Does your wife consider it a mystery too?
Yes, she does. She came home that day, and said, "How did you manage to get rid of that stump?"

Who cut down the tree?
I did, some time before. But I didn't dig up that stump.

Somebody is REALLY into "Practice random acts of kindness."
There's also the Guardian Angel theory. This Guardian Angel said to herself, "If that old fool goes out there and tries to dig this stump up with a shovel, in this heat and humidity, he's going to have a heart attack. I'll get rid of it THIS TIME, and this time only."

And there's the Evil Demon theory
So what is this evil demon's agenda?

Re: The Case of the Inexplicably Called "Unexplainable" Missing Stump
Call the city. I bet they know who disappeared that stump.
I don't know what kind of city you live in, but my city does not provide free stump-removal from private residences.
My city is rather hard-nosed. Remember that song?
"If you are ever in Houston, you better walk right.
You better not gamble, you better not fight.
The sheriff, he will grab you, and the boys will pull you down,
And before you know it, you're penitentiary bound."

Re: What is sin?
Off topic: Schraf, have I ever told you how hot I think smart women are?
On topic: Is that a sin?
It's off-topic and very sinful.
