Re: No one can give a reason
Tell us then Crashfrog, since you are an expert on what the bible teaches; how does a person earn the right to enter the kingdom of God?
Ooh ooh, I know, call on me! By listening to and emulating Jesus, who hung with thieves and prostitutes, instead of listening to that prig Paul.
Maybe Crash used the Jefferson Bible, with only the actual (well...) words of Jesus: Paul didn't make the cut with Jefferson either.
So, anyway...will your sins keep you from heaven? You are a sinner, clearly.
How will you, repeatedly sinning despite your claim of salvation, get in?

Re: No one can give a reason
What fun, watching a 21st century material Christian dance around Christ's actual words.
It's been so long since I heard a sermon, I'd forgotten that Christ said "this particular rich man"--not the rich in general.
Oh look! My Bible forgot, too. I'll make a correction.

Oh, I still read them, obviously.
I got your drift just fine. It's only that your drift is bollocks.
I'm just not doing as Crashfrog does in supposing "rich" restricted to only financial wealth.
I don't think Crash supposed any such thing. He pointed out that Jesus's words were clear and direct about the unlikelihood (if not flat impossibility) of a rich man getting into heaven vs. the standard condemnation of all sin that is applied to homosexuality by others.
As in wealthy. As in money.
You seem to have explained the plain meaning of Christ's words away.
(p.s. what on earth is a "material Christian"?)
Ah, that's in part a pun on Madonna's song of years ago, Material Girl.
Mostly, though, it is my term for Christians who, while enjoying the remarkable benefits of modern affluence, explain how Christ really didn't mean what he said about material wealth, or, if he did, it doesn't apply to believers, who are rich because God wants them to be.
You're probably more familiar with the term "prosperity Christian"--if not, google it for an eye-opening examination of the material ways in which God rewards his own.
I figure we'll have golden virgins and platinum Visa cards on offer in heaven soon.

Thanks for the reply, iano. As I said, your position is familiar to me.
But since so much of my post was impenetrable to you, and I am too sick and tired for lengthy exchanges (and because you have no shortage of interlocutors), I'll take my leave of the thread.

Living with the animals
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
You've never seen a male dog mount another male dog? Have you ever lived on a farm? Male geese and ducks often bond; I've watched a local reservoir for years, partly because it is ruled by a homosexual pair of China White geese.
The evidence for wide-ranging homosexuality in the animal kingdom is overwhelming.
ICdesign writes:
Besides all that I have had special bonds that are unexplainable with other men that had nothing to do whatsoever with a sexual connection.
If they were unexplainable, how do you know there was no sexual connection?
Or maybe you just have no idea of the wealth of evidence about animal homosexuality (both male and female, by the way). I'd tell you to google animal homosexuality, but you won't: ignoring evidence is how you maintain your iron-clad denial.
So instead, go take a look--go see a dog breeder, and ask. Go to the zoo, and ask the penquin keeper.
You should get out more.

"I never engaged in this kind of thing before..."
But surely the "Hate the Sin..." thread is so done the meat is falling off the bones.
Arguments against ICdesign's stance have reached the 3rd or 4th round of repetition, and ICdesign has reached the nyah-nyah stage of his arc.
Please make it stop.
