The Proposed New Topics (PNT) forum was started about 1 1/2 years ago. In all, I think it is a positive if not always perfectly executed concept (I am heavily skeptical about the new "In the News" forum. My instinct is that it function mainly as a PNT dodge).
I still maintain my opinion that the PNT concept has both failed to maintain topic quality and inhibited free debate. Apart from anything else it is now much harder to spin off a sub-topic to debate an interesting sub-point.

Re: Excellent point!
Hi Brian,
I just made the same point to Phat on another thread, sometimes a member has to wait days on a spin off topic being approved, by that time the heat has gone.
Yup. Also it encourages people to continue the off-topic debate in the existing thread because getting a new thread done is just too much hassle.
Would you like to see the PNT gone?
Absolutely. In my opinion it has failed.

Re: What is up with EvC and what do we do?
I did not know it was new and I did not know that before it was a "free for all" in which anybody could post anything. So I guess these posters are saying, just let anybody post anything, no controls at all. And let them curse eacn other out if they want to.
Was that the way it was in the past?
You used to be free to start any topic you liked, but once started those topics were moderated much as they are now. There was also a "free for all" forum in which the rules were more lax.
It worked well; often really well.
