Of course not, what nonsense. People are allowed to be wrong too as long as they are genuinely sincere. The test would be if they give in when threatened with legal action. The verse I quoted was of Peter and company saying they should obey God and not men, and I disputed the misinterpretation of the verse that says to obey the magistrates, because that's only if they don't contradict God.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

abe: This is my response to Percy's point on the Discussion Problems thread that Jar is asking how refusing to make a wedding cake is not discrimination according to the law. That does clarify the whole problem. Of course to my mind if you are following God's law you can't be committing any kind of crime, but that isn't true if the world is willing to criminalize God's law which I haven't been quite able to believe could happen. But really it is what has happened. And that finishes off this whole argument. /abe
Gosh the devil is clever. I'm in awe. Take a law of God and criminalize it so that anyone who obeys it is a criminal. Man, that's clever. So by obeying God in refusing to validate gay marriage a person is now committing the crime of "discrimination," which is very interesting in itself since the whole idea of equality of treatment was originally Christian. But the devil has also redefined a class of people who are not a race or ethnic group but people who happen to share a sexual aberration, turned them into a legitimate Minority which must be protected by law from "discrimination" and by such Word Magic has gained enough popular support to deprive Christians of their American rights and push us into a corner, which is what his aim was all along. Let's see, he also did it centuries ago when he got the Bible outlawed. Man did they persecute us then! But he obviously hadn't run out of tricks with that one. Gosh this latest ploy is clever! Congratulations to the devil! I have to admit he's won, he's got us where he wants us. I wonder what he plans to do to us next. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Yes that's what I'm saying. I still hope saner voices might prevail and turn it back, it's just marginally possible that could still happen, but I think with popular opinion as shown by the chorus here, on top of the direction of the courts in recent years, it is only going to keep going that way. As I say I haven't really been able to believe it could happen in the once-Christian west, but yes it's happened. Caesar has won, we have to worship him instead of God or take the consequences.

Oh yes we do have the choice of obeying God or a law that criminalizes God's law, if we want to make use of one of the freedoms that used to be ours and open a business that in any way caters to marriage. Poor Melissa Klein, she dreamed all her life of doing wedding cakes and now she can't. You keep pretending that denying us that right isn't a case of legal tyranny but it most certainly is. And it's only the opening wedge.

Melissa Klein wanted to have a business for selling wedding cakes and she did have it for a while until the Devil's targeting of Christians picked her out and took it away from her. You seem to feel quite free to tell other people how they should feel about having their life's dream taking out from under them for no fault of their own. All this could have been prevented if the law allowed Christians their freedom of conscience and recognized it at least as the historically valid position it's always been, as the Sixth District Circuit Court more or less did in ruling for gay marriage bans in four states. But the Supreme Court is very likely to strike it down in favor of Caesar when it comes to them next year.
Like I've been saying the law has been twisted, things are equated which should not be equated, good is put for evil and evil for good and worshiping Caesar instead of God is becoming more and more the law of the land. Congratulations to the Devil, he's done his job well.

Sure jar, your Word Magic can change anything from good to evil and evil to good. Congratulations. Just sling some terms like "bigot," "discriminate," making that bogus equation between a person's First Amendment freedom with support of "slavery" so the constitutional freedom can be removed without anyone protesting, which has been the devil's method for decades now. He finally succeeded in getting a few Christians criminalized by it. Oh how well he has has done his work. But of course he isn't going to stop there. I'd say get out the popcorn but I think some of us are going to be too busy for that.

Since I mentioned the ruling in favor of gay marriage bans in four states by the Sixth District Circuit Court, I wanted to post the majority opinion in that case, the only sane thing to come out of a court case on this sort of issue in aeons:
Judge Sutton’s majority opinion is a very philosophical one that explores the role of the judiciary in a democracy. Much of it reflects Judge Sutton’s reasoning that bans on same-sex marriage pass muster under rational basis review and that the battle over gay marriageone of the most highly contentious cultural issues of our timeshould be decided by the people, not by a judiciary acting as some sort of superlegislature. As Judge Sutton wrote: A dose of humility makes us hesitant to condemn as unconstitutionally irrational a view of marriage shared not long ago by every society in the world, shared by most, if not all, of our ancestors, and shared still today by a significant number of the States. Hesitant, yes; but still a rational basis, some rational basis, must exist for the definition. ...a view of marriage shared not long ago by every society in the world, shared by most, if not all, of our ancestors, and shared still today by a significant number of the States. A flash of sanity in a darkening world.

Most black people know better, they know there is no legitimate comparison between the black Civil Rights movement and this attempt to legitimize a nonracial nonethnic group. Shall we make pedophiles the next protected Minority? You'll scream that there's no comparison but there is. These groups are defined by their feelings and desires, unlike a racial or ethnic group. And these feelings and desires were considered by most societies to be aberrant up until very recently and of course still criminal in the case of pedophiles. But you know what, I think it really could come to protecting pedophiles too in one form or another. The RCC already protects theirs in the priesthood by relocating them where they can continue to molest children unrecognized.

I don't even know what you are referring to about what I said. But I also can't imagine that it matters since the two groups are not comparable as many blacks will tell you, and they rightly resent the comparison.

Meanwhile I notice everybody is ignoring the majority opinion in the Sixth District Circuit Court's decision which I quoted in [Msg=1112]. I expect you not to like it of course.

Well, that's a clever way to twist it. Full of logical holes but probably politically correct enough to pass muster. But again, most blacks would not agree with it.

I'm discriminating against Women because some women, a very tiny minority of women, want to marry other women?
I guess I just don't have the ability to put my head into the logical pretzel that makes such thinking seem to make sense. Alas! But I guess I'm not discriminating against Women if I ignore the votes of a huge number of women against gay marriage? No need to answer, the murder of logic will only give me a headache.
