Religion is Evil!

Stephen ben Yeshua,I think you for your Christian charity. I too consider myself agnostic. I'm encouraged by the words of a believer such as yourself that, simply because I happen to have different opinions on spiritual or philosophical matters, I'm 'despicable,' as well as 'below contempt.' Saying about agnostics that 'the sooner they are destroyed, the better' demonstrates just the sort of tolerance and forgiveness that Jesus preached. I appreciate your offer to 'go after you myself,' but I'd hate to take you away from your important prayer-studies and your lifelong committment to following the example of Christ. And, as you rightly state, at some point 'God can justly get rid of them, the way our farmers get rid of mad-cows or bird-flu chickens.' I know Christ spoke of humanity as his flock, so I suppose similar livestock metaphors are theologically appropriate.Again, I'm grateful for your display of love and acceptance.regards,

I feel a Duty upon me to complain in the strongest possible terms concerning the Degeneracy of Art in our Age. As the dawning of the twentieth Century is nigh upon us, we must ensure that every Effort is made by respectable citizens to oppose this Down-slide. I had hoped that the Relief I felt at the passing of Poe in '49 were shared equally amongst decent Men, and that the God-less bilge spewed forth by so-called Authors such as Ann Radcliffe and Horace Walpole would be a thing of the Distant-Past, replaced by more uplifting Fare such as that offered by the dime-store Scribe known as Horatio Alger, Jr.

Alas, my optimism was to be but short-lived. That Wagner fellow saw his Star rise thanks to his Music-drama celebrations of Paganism and the Occult. (I admit Parsifal was a welcome Foray into good Christian ideals, pity his Death will most likely stem the Tide of his Out-put henceforth.) From the Irish Sewer we see two works released but this very Year that personify this disturbing Trend: that Marxist, George Bernard Shaw, has seen his Stage-Play The Devil's Disciple performed to much acclaim. Of late, some Irish Civil-servant by the Name of Bram Stoker has befouled the formerly clear Airs of our Western Culture with his Satanic and indecent Novel Dracula, currently a Sensation among the depraved followers of popular so-called Literature. Given the tantalizing Success of these degenerates, I would expect that we will presently be inundated with such immoral works and our Culture will collapse forth-with.

For the Benefit of the members of our Society least equipped with moral Faculty (such as children, Women-folk and the Irish), I respectfully request that all right-minded Citizens join with me in registering our Disgust with this Turn of Events.
