You have it backwards. When we have evidence that something in the Bible is wrong - e.g. the Flood story - we recognize it as wrong. There's no desire to prove anything wrong, just a desire to find out what's right.

Well, no idea entered people's minds until it did. Ideas don't get more reliable with age; they get more reliable with evidence.
