is there any other value to Intelligent Design?
Not really. Apples would still fall from trees because of gravity, not god. Unless, of course, god has been lying to us all that time and tweaks all our senses and measuring devices in to making it look like he didn't do it.

Re: It IS important
Hi Parasomnium,
The question of the designer's identity may be perceived as a parochial one, but if ID is true it means that just about everything we think we know about the world around us is bunk, and worse, that our methods of gaining knowledge are seriously flawed. Not a small matter, I'd say.
I don't agree on this one. Why would the scientific method be flawed if god/ID existed? The fact that some things are designed (cars, etc.) does not mean that everything is designed. We can distinguish between design and non-design (although sometimes it's really hard), and so far no design has been detected in nature. But that does not prove that god does not exist and that nothing is designed in nature. He could theoretically still have designed the first life or the big bang and then sit back and drink cocktails the rest of his life, while watching his self-created soap unfold...

Re: It IS important
Well, that's just the thing - if there is a designer with a plan for life on Earth, then the mechanisms we think drive evolution are wrong.
This is of course not true. A designer could have designed life with the plan to let it evolve.
The existence or non-existence of a designer does in no way change anything we already know about the world. Evolution by means of random mutation, natural selection etc. takes place, so if life was really designed with a plan, evolution must have been part of that plan (or the plan went wrong).

Hi Rahvin,
The existence of one means as it is that all of our evolutionary models are wrong, [...]
You said this several times now, but can you explain why this is so? If the first life form was designed and then left to itself to evolve due to random mutation, natural selection etc, it still means that there was a designer, and evolutionary theory would still be (sort of) correct. In fact, a designer could even have planned it that way. So, why must evolutionary theory be wrong if a designer exists?

Re: It IS important
For ID to be taken seriously, the model, the method of how the designer effects change needs to be presented, and then tested.
The problem here is, of course, that ID is not interested in showing the method, but only in the identity of the designer. I wonder what would happen if they ever would be able to prove ID, and that it turns out that it was not god who did it, but Thor or Zeus...
