Re: Jewish Canon
but the copiests themselves were not inspired, they were performing a job. This is probably why they took liberty to make changes at times. The only inspired writers were those who wrote the books themselves. This is also why there are some errors, but they are usually only grammatical errors or slight spelling mistakes.
How do you know they didn't change anything substantial?
Do you know what years the Dead Sea Scrolls date from?
quote:
These manuscripts generally date between 150 BCE to 70 CE.[2] The scrolls are most commonly identified with the ancient Jewish sect called the Essenes, but recent scholarship has challenged their association with the scrolls.
quote:
About 35% of the DSS biblical manuscripts belong to the Masoretic tradition, 5% to the Septuagint family, and 5% to the Samaritan, with the remainder unaligned. The non-aligned fall into two categories, those inconsistent in agreeing with other known types, and those that diverge significantly from all other known readings. The DSS thus form a significant witness to the mutability of biblical texts at this period.
Source
The scrolls don;t even come from the same tradition, so how can anyone claim that the bible has been consistent "since ancient times"

Ancient greek? really?
having studied ancient greek and knowing the rules of translation, i will refrain from answering this and let Jamison Faucett and Brown do the talking instead:
Since you have studied ancient Greek and know all of the rules, why don't you put something in your own words explaining this.
BTW, we are still waiting for the reference for this cut and paste.

Thanks for the reference
Again, I need to ask. If you are such an expert on ancient Greek, why do you have to do a large cut and paste? Why don't you put something in your own words.
Just giving a name is not giving a reference. Was it that hard to actually cite the source?
Don't you think biblical commentary and general knowledge may have changed a bit in 140 years.

This one volume commentary was prepared by Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset and David Brown and published in 1871.

Really? really?
Most of the NT writings can be dated back to the 4th century AD
This is your argument? The 3 centuries between the supposed events and the writing down are meaningless? This would be like writing about an event in 1710 now, and saying it is based on fact. Even though all we may have about it is stories that have passed down through the ages.

Re: Those who are being saved.
pd writes:
From the research of Bart D. Ehrman, these are the top ten most familiar verses that weren't originally in the New Testament. (Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why, Bart D. Ehrman, 2005, Pgs 265-266)
Can you show any evidence at all to dicount this? Or do you just have nothing like this.
Bart Ehrman never found true faith in our Lord Jesus Christ through the gift of His Spirit, relying instead on intellectual beliefs that had no substance. Instead of pressing on into the reality of God who rewards those who dilligently seek Him (Heb 11:6), Bart turned back to unbelief.
Do you know anything about him? Seems all you have is the "No True Scotsman Fallacy". You might want to look it up.

Re: Those who are being saved.
Can you discount anything he has written? Any evidence what he says is not based on facts or evidence?
And please no more of the lame biblical passages. If I want bad poetry I will listen to Lady Gaga.
