So basically, your argument for an afterlife goes as such:
1) Shit happens.
2) Wouldn't it be nice if we were paid back for all that shit happening, in the afterlife?
3) Therefore, shit happening is evidence of an afterlife.
That isn't evidence by any stretch of the imagination :S
(First post! Yay!)

Thanks for the welcome!
I've actually been lurking for several months now, and decided to jump in. Hopefully my age (I've only recently turned 17) doesn't get in the way too much...it's disappointing that the only teens to come in here seem to be wacko YECs sprouting the same PRATTS...but anyway, let's see how this goes

What do you think, Alasdair? Elaborate a bit...
Oh, that wasn't a statement of my beliefs, I was summing up Chris's argument - sorry about the misunderstanding.

Common, surely there's a more mature way of contributing to a conversation than calling him gay.

Alasdair, you have to understand Troy. He is unique. He also likes to tease Chris. Chris usually ignores him.
Isn't that Lam?

Getting back on topic, what is your philosophy of life, Alasdair?
Heh heh, a little off topic...but I think that I'd be considered an agnostic or an atheist...but to be realistic, I haven't a clue whether or not a God exists. For the most part, at this point in my life, I don't much care - however, I haven't found any evidence for His (assuming He's male, of course ) existence as of yet. I'm not going to find and stick to a philosophy or religion at only 17, I'm too young and stupid.

You know that while I am typing this, I am watching Punk'd on T.V and you kinda look like Ashton Kutcher. Do the ladies say that to you also?
First time I've heard it! Been compared to Tom Green before though...

PRATTS = points refuted a thousand times. Just trying the debate lingo, doesn't seem to be working.

Usually, I break it all down like this:
One side believes that Man invented religion. In fact, the origen of all thought concepts to do with life originated with human wisdom(or the lack thereof)
The other side believes that God exists (although they can't prove it) and that God is the origin of all that is.
Can't say that I'm on either side, although you could say I leaned towards the first. I don't really care for what I call Fundy Atheists ("HA HA GO WORSHIP YOUR IMAGINARY BIG MAN IN THE SKY CHRISTIAN-BOY!").
Read an article in National Geographic (I think) that talked about how religion could have evolved as an advantageous way of causing people to group together. Of course, it was just speculation, but interesting nonetheless...there could be something out there, but as of yet, I'm uncertain. *ramble ramble ramble*

I tend to believe the second point, largely due to events that I have experienced in my life. Did you lurk around any of our posts on these topics previously?
Mostly stuck to the science topics - they're what really interest me.

BTW what are you studying in school? Do you want to go to college? Majoring in?
Been taking all my classes at the local community college since the beginning of this year (my junior year at high school), and I'm currently working on a two-year associate transfer degree in Science (Engineering). Hopefully going on to a Bachelor's in Aeronautical Engineering
On a side note, is there an intro thread? Didn't seem to see one.

He's not "ruining people's lives and putting them on meds". Where did he say that?
He's just asking you if you're on any medication for mental problems. You've already answered no, so let's lighten up, eh?

Yes, but what "should" happen is hardly evidence. I think that aliens "should" come and give me new alien technology, but that doesn't count as evidence for aliens

For the sake of doing good - the rewards of heaven are really just a nice bonus/incentive
