If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."

The people you read about in the bible were human beings and they lived many centuries ago. They simply cannot be judged by our standards.
In ancient Athens just as few centuries prior to Jesus' time, the only people in the entire society who walked around armed were scythian slaves, serving roughly as cops. What's wrong with the picture? I mean, can you picture a scene in Atlanta or Richmond prior to the civil war, in which only negroes had guns, AND THEY STILL STUCK AROUND AND WERE HAPPY WITH THEIR LOT IN LIFE?? I mean, that only works if being an Athenian slave was so far above being a scythian that it wasn't even worth thinking about.
Nor is there any shortage of similar examples. There is no reasonable argument to be made that those guys were hypocrites or acting in any sort of an immoral manner because some customs may have changed over 2000 years.

I agree, but the logic runs both ways. If we should not apply our standards of behavior to those who lived in biblical times, neither should our behavior today be judged by the standards of the bible.
I believe you have to pick and choose. There are parts of the bible, both testaments, which are clearly applicable to the authors' times and not ours, and there are other parts which appear timeless. The ten commandments strike me as timeless as does much if not all of what you read in the sermon on the mount.
