I've not had a smoke since Sunday evening. I'm not saying I'm quitting.
You are official quitting when you get all of the cigarettes out of the house. I wish you all the best.

I switched to e-cigs and its amazing.
I wouldn't give the tobacco industry a single cent of my money. But that's my personal issue.
The jury is still out on the health effects, but what is pretty clear is that e-cigs are not a path to quitting smoking.
For you, I say just be careful with that e-liquid stuff. People who swallow that poison occasionally end up in the hospital. Don't even get it on your skin.

Stuff like that. Plus I don't stink, and I don't have to go outside to "smoke".
Grrr... Yes, that's what you can do at home. But some people think they can use e-cigs in the most inappropriate places. My wife confronted a fellow for huffing away on an e-sig in church. He seemed astonished that anyone cared, but admitted that he would not have pulled the stunt at the large church down the block.

Re: Sounds like this book is a miracle method for quitting
I love smoking and I wish people would just stop it with all the negative vibes. Its like telling a gay person that they shouldn't be gay because its bad for their health. Fuck off already.
No it is not the same thing. People who care about you should not be trying to stop you from being gay, but if the worst thing you can say about them is that they want to keep you around longer, then that isn't all that much of an indictment.
And yeah, doctors do tell obese people to lose weight too.

Then you better also stay away from tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflower, eggplant...
I like tomatoes, but if you use that as an excuse to pelt me with vegetables, then it's on and popping.

Re: What's wrong with smoking?
Why is smoking so different from any other behaviour be it chosen or inherent?
Because for now, we cannot fix the problem.
Because smoking is that it inherently requires an addictive substance that drags you early grave. You apparently aren't the least bit interested in e-cigs, so you've turned down the improvements. "Low tar" cigarettes just make you huff harder on them and then buy more.
Your doctor is not a magician. He can't fix cigarettes, so he's giving you the advice he can give you. His job is to worry about your health, and you insist on working against him and then bad mouthing him for trying to talk sense into you. Do you expect him to give your bronchioles some kind of anti-tar coating?

'I would trade 5 yrs in the geriatric ward for a good cigar any day.'
Here is an anecdotal data point for you. My mom has already outlived her used to be 20 cigs a day husband by 25 years.

Re: What's wrong with smoking?
Smoking as much as you do is stupid and no amount of philosophy is going to stop a heart attack.' I disagreed about that as well but left feeling thoroughly chastised.
Which part of that did you disagree with?

Re: What's wrong with smoking?
Just that one's state of mind has a lot to do with whether or not you have a heart attack.
Except that your doctor was not talking about philosophy in general was he? He was talking about your personal philosophy that he should mind his own business about your smoking and lecture the fatties. Well that sounds so much like my Dad, it is uncanny.
Do you think your denial is going to protect your heart and lungs?

Re: Vaping
Its 12 mg/ml, which is, like, ppm not percent.
1 mg/ml is equivalent 1 gram per liter of solution. That's about one tenth of a percent and not like 1 part per million. 12 mg/ml is about 1.2 per cent by weight.
Despite the fact that it isn't a goal for you. I hope switching to vaping does help improve your health/longevity.
