King James Bible writes: Proverbs 27:14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him. Blessings and Peace be upon you, Phatboy! (:raig

As much as I appreciate the sentiment, I still have to ask what are you getting out of this? I have so far received nothing in regards to some holy spirit or whatever I guess I was supposed to receive? It sure wasn't money! Anways, any knowledge I receive has nothing to do at all with god but has everything to do with how hard I study.
I will let you in on a little secret though. My girlfriend is catholic and comes from a devout family. I even helped her save up money so she can go see the pope in Toronto (She did most the work ). She asks me to pray for her and her family occasionaly and I do pray for her. Not because I believe, but because doing so makes her happy and I promise her that I will. She knows I do not believe and sometimes gets upset at me when I tell her ghosts do not exist etc, that there is a rational explanation for those experiences etc, but I pray anyways because I care how she feels. She is very intelligent, and I wonder how she can believe things the way she does. I understand that one reason for her belief is her mother, who is very devout and always gives me Jesus calandars when we go back home on vacation (I have 5 for this year alone and 1 hanging on the wall ). Her family has enculturated her in this belief. The point I am trying to make, if any, is that I respect your belief but I also wish to know how you will know what changes were brought about by your prayers? Will the holy ghost come to you and bring you, a la stooge and the ghosts of christmas, to see those you prayed for in their homes? What kind of confirmation are you looking for?

What is the origin of your "monotheist" beliefs ?
Are you aware that Genesis 1:1 says "Elohim" the plural form for God ? It means what it says. BTW, who was Jesus speaking to in John 17 ? Phatboy, the trinity is logical nonsense - good luck with this debate.

I will say that I perhaps should of prayed in secret for everyone, but I did this thread to see what type of a response that I would get. In general, most people in this chatroom are open to discuss differences...except for the hardcore atheists...who do not even realize that they are victims of a spirtual war that they claim the christians madness has started. I will agree on one right that the atheists have. They have a right to not be bothered, and when they demand that I "prove" my God, all I can say is that deep down, they never really wanted to know.
Yes, we have freedom from religion, and yes we are free to believe what we want to believe, but IF God exists, we are ultimately NOT free from His judgement no matter what we say or do. He calls the shots. How dare we judge Him? [This message has been edited by Phatboy, 03-03-2004]

quote: What's "God"? I really do want to know this, honest. I've asked tons of people, but no one seems to want to tell me. They just tell me that it's called "God", and that I should believe in it and worship it. "Perhaps you should take your furs and your literal interpretations to the other side of the river." -Anya

Take comfort Phatboy, the N.T. says atheism is a penalty from God for continually resisting Him. Atheists are rejected by God for rejecting Him.
Atheism thinks that God is on trial with them, quite the contrary. The constant refusal to respond to the Spirit runs the risk of the Spirit giving up on you. When the Spirit/God gives up on a person, the end result is violators simply do not care what He thinks of them. He withdraws the urge for. The unpardonable sin has been committed. What's the point ? Don't trifle with God or He might make you believe that He don't exist.

If you don't believe in god, he will make you not believe in him. Asgara "An unexamined life is not worth living" Socrates via Plato

the end result is violators simply do not care what He thinks of them At least you have this right. If you can understand that some of use really, just don't care at all you have a better understanding than those who think we hate, are afraid of etc etc, God.

Maybe it's just me but that doesn't seem like a very bad punishment. It's kind of like denying candy to a kid that doesn't like candy.
God: "Hey, you there! Do you believe in me?"Atheist: "Nope." God: "How dare you! I shall punish you by making you have no belief in me!" Atheist: "Ok, sounds good." *Shrug*

God only promises to be a Father if one responds.
The unconditional love/grace/mercy of God has ONE condition : that it be responded to in a predetermined amount of time known only to God. God is not a doormat. And the post that started this particular exchange is actually incomplete. The overriding and controlling truth that supercedes all other truth is the truth of the gospel. If a person will call on the Lord by faith, (which is the gospel) THENin response, God promises to do His part and reveal His Son unto you. (John 14:21)

BTW, in other topics I have argued extensively that there is ONE exception to the omniscience and omnipotence of God.

Scraf,
re:
Some parent God is, eh? The choice we make, actually, is whose child we will be. We are all born as children of the devil, seeds of the evil one. But, we are given the chance to be "born again" as children of God. Those who make that choice get to know God as a parent, and find Him to be a quite good parent. Those who do not choose to be born again stay the children of the devil, basically living out their lives fulfilling the devil's agenda. Which is to uglify God's creation.
Not all-powerful and all-knowing, either, apparently. God does not present Himself to us in these terms, never really claims to be all-powerful or all-knowing. These are terms the devil uses, to uglify God's creation, and make God unappealing to those considering choosing to be born again, taken into His family. God describes Himself as a loving father, a good shepherd, mighty, a wonderful counselor, healer, provider, source of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, creator, comforter, companion. For those who choose to be born again, He is all of these things. For those who do not, He is a formidable but just enemy, restrained only by His hope that these may yet change their minds. It is for understanding of this that I pray for you and others here. So your choice will be clear, with substantial awareness of the costs and benefits of the various alternatives. Stephen
