Geopolitics. An think-tank uncle of mine who worked for the Clinton adminstration told of Israels worry about Irans developing nuclear potential. He said it was highly unlikely that Israel would let Iran get the project up and running and that they would employ a pre-emptive strike similar to that carried out against an Iraqi nuclear facility in 1981

If such a strike took place, the west would huff and puff and issue some UN Resolutions condemning the act. In reality, the west and other interested parties would be jumping up and down with joy.
Israel, a west-friendly state with world class military power and stable government located right in the middle of the most strategically important area of the world. In whose interest is it to call "enough is enough?"
