Dr. Strangelove is easily one of the best movies of all time.
About pacing, most movies prior to about 1985 have significantly slower pacing than today's films. But check out Kubrick's 1957 film, The Killing, which definitely has modern pacing, way ahead of it's time. It also heavily influenced Reservoir Dogs. Paths of Glory is another film that flies by. 2001 and Barry Lyndon have slow pacing but that is a very deliberate choice by Kubrick.
