It's odd that the problem seems to be worsening just as I'm trying to fix it. Don't know what to make of that. Restarting Apache didn't seem to make any difference. I'll have to try something else. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Do you know any other servers hosted by your provider? If so ping them to check it's not just you.

The server is still up and Apache is still servicing other websites and, for example, this website's homepage. It's just not servicing anything that includes MySQL.

It was down from about 8:40-8:45 central time this morning.
Perhaps a smaller time window can help narrow down the problem. Edited by Jon, : No reason given.Love your enemies!

Percy, not a huge deal, but something kind of annoying has been happening for some time now. If I go to click on a link in "All topics" that is near the bottom of the screen, the hoverbox that pops up with details about the link blocks my click on the link. I have to scroll so the topic is higher up on the screen so the hoverbox doesn't popup right over the link. Perhaps delaying when it pops up by a second or so would do it.
Hope this makes sense, I don't necessarily know the proper terminology here. HBDWhoever calls me ignorant shares my own opinion. Sorrowfully and tacitly I recognize my ignorance, when I consider how much I lack of what my mind in its craving for knowledge is sighing for... I console myself with the consideration that this belongs to our common nature. - Francesco Petrarca "Nothing is easier than to persuade people who want to be persuaded and already believe." - another Petrarca gem. Ignorance is a most formidable opponent rivaled only by arrogance; but when the two join forces, one is all but invincible.

I have a similar problem with clicking on the message link once I've generated the All Topics list. The info box blocks a click on that link until I move the cursor quickly to one side and click before it moves. I haven't noticed any difference based on whether the link is high or low on the screen.
A slight delay, as HBD suggests, would help, or an info box that is "transparent" to the click. NB: HBD is right--depends on screen position. The lower screen position forces the info box up a line or two for full display, blocking the link. Edited by Omnivorous, : No reason given. This is already fixed in 5.0, I'll migrate the fix back to 4.0.

Problem is fixed. It's a Javascript fix, you'll have to reload/refresh the page to see it. Just clicking on a link to EvC won't reload the Javascript.
AbE: Pardon, I was interrupted as I was releasing the new code. Code is released now. Edited by Admin, : AbE.

We have 15 spammers who claim Sept. 2, 1990 as their birthday.
We also have Omnivorous claiming Sept. 2 as his birthday. We only have 10 listed in the "Happy Birthday" list. What kind of crappy forum software is this? I note in Message 498, Message 500, Message 501 the graphic is no longer being displayed. In "peek" the address is still there and the graphic is still out on the web. Just not being called in and displayed? Or is this some kinda strange happening with my PC?
I note that in Message 73 and Message 191 the graphic shows but is over stretched vertically from what is in the source. The aspect ratios are wrong. In Message 257 and others the graphics display properly. I tried using the "Do Nothing Button" (which doesn't do that anymore) thinking it might help resolve the graphics properly but all it did was inform me that "Chair number eleven does not make any sense." which I already knew, so no help there. Since you brought it up, I've been getting a lot of vertically stretched graphics here too.
abe: checked the three where the graphics aren't showing up and that's true for me too. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

The graphics in the first three messages you quoted don't display on my end either, and I've got a pretty new Mac.
