I am also having the problem of ratings disappearing. When I reload the page, then it will show me the bubbles with my rating selected, but right after selecting the rating disappears.
Also, I noticed that the first page in a thread, where I come when I first click on the topic from the forum page, is no longer highlighted blue in the page lists at the upper right of the screen. All the other pages highlight when I am on them, but not page 1. It may have always been like that, but I just noticed it recently. Have the URL tags always been so picky?
I just noticed in Bluejay's Message 192 that a space before the URL breaks the link (though it still highlights like a link for some reason). Has this always been like this, or is it something unique to the recent update? Jon Love your enemies!

Is there something wrong with the equation used for the rating system?
I gave someone with a 3.9 average a 4 rating on one of their messages and it brought their rating down to a 3.8. That somehow doesn't make sense to me. If the rating given is higher than the user's average, shouldn't that bring up their average by a little bit? If the rating given is the same as the user's average, should that keep their average the same? If it's lower, shouldn't that bring it down? Right now, though, it seems like anything less than a 5 brings down the average. Or have I betrayed my mathematical incompetence on this one? JonLove your enemies!

It may be that you had given another of their messages a higher rating at some point. That means that you could have lowered your own average rating for that poster and that in turn would lower the overall average. At least that was how I understood the system worked. Oh. I didn't know that it worked that way. That would explain a lot of my confusion. JonLove your enemies!

Member rating values can range between plus and minus 100. Does that mean your 66.7 is overall negative or overall positive? They seem to be showing up for me as plus or minus zero. I'm still confused on the equation Before my rating was about a 3 and I think yours was a 4; now I'm -26.7 and you are +66.7. The relationship of the new ratings seems entirely different than the relationship of the old ratings, even though they are supposed to be based on the old numbers, no? ABE: If I select a down rating and then deselect it, the thumbs-down buttons disappear for all the posts on the forums. It might even disappear after the initial down rating, but I didn't check that when I did the first down rating. /ABE Jon Edited by Jon, : No reason given.Love your enemies!

I reset all the member ratings. They'll be recalculated the first time someone votes for one of their messages. But you should always be able to see message ratings in the form of thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons. For example, if you view Message 316, don't you see three thumbs-up and one thumbs-down? But the actual number doesn't show up until after we cast a vote. Or is that what you mean when you say they are calculated the first time someone votes for one of their messages? I cannot see my own rating on the forum; perhaps if someone rates this message, I'll see the rating? JonLove your enemies!

Edit button just vanished; I guess I can see my own rating; nevermind on that.

Click on refresh/reload so that the latest Javascript and CSS files are loaded. Otherwise the new message rating system will not work properly for you. It is working well on my other computer now. I will close out my browser and open it back up later to see if that fixes it on the computer I made the original post from; for now a simple refresh doesn't seem to be doing the trick, but the problem is clearly on my side. ABE:Clear cache fixed it. Jon Edited by Jon, : No reason given.Love your enemies!

Have to say that the thumb icons look appalling and seriously cheapen the look of the site. I kind of thought the same thing, no offense to Percy. They also seem much too far apart. Maybe a simple +/- to replace the 'Like/Dislike...' line would provide a more compact and professional look... JonLove your enemies!

Works okay.
One thing that has bugged me for a while, though, is that the big white box that you put the reply into seems to have a fixed width instead of a relative width, so it doesn't scale when you make the window smaller. I know you can manually adjust the size of the box, but that's kind of a hassle especially since the size resets every time you click to preview your message. What do you think?Love your enemies!

I just realized what buttons you are talking about. I thought you meant the Reply button for replying to a post. Now I see you changed the replies links at the bottom of each message that list everyone who has replied to a post.
That is a very handy change indeed! Love your enemies! |

Had no idea the ratings went up to 10. Everyone's rating is less than 4; most people are at about 1 or so.
I've never really like the all-or-nothing rating system, though. I'd be more likely to give more rating of messages if there were something like a 5-star system. Love your enemies!

Cool.
I just thought of something else that might be useful: the ability to use the [mbrid] tag in the [qs=""] field. Even with [noparse], I can't show the tags without it getting seriously muddled. But if implemented it would allow quick creation of the following:Jon writes: Hello World! Right now you get:" Hello World![/qs] (even with the [noparse] tag).Love your enemies!
