Thanks for the reports. These are possibly DOS attacks again. I'll try to correlate with the logs.

Yesterday and today, board is pretty much unusable. Takes 4 or 5 page loads before I actually get to a page. 503 errors continuous.
abe: of course, once I post this, things seem to have resolved....at least for now Edited by Asgara, : No reason given.

I wasn't online while it was happening, but it sounds like a similar problem to a couple months ago. Next time it happens while I'm online I'll track it down.

Has also been slow earlier this evening. Indications, at least sometimes, are that the server has been contacted, but is then slow to return information. Sometimes get "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable" messages. Windows 7, Firefox. Moose

Forum was slow this morning, too. I restarted Apache, seems to have fixed the problem.

Starting at somewhere in the vicinity of 8:00pm (US Eastern) Saturday the 14th, the forum was totally inaccessible for at least 2 hours (wasn't keeping close track, could have easily been 4 hours).
The evcforum.net home page would respond just fine, as would some of the links there, such as the glossaries. But nothing directly connected to the forum would work. Moose

I've added an Apache restart every 4 hours, let's see if that helps.

As of 10:40pm (eastern US) I was getting nothing but 503 messages.
Now, 10:49pm, everything seems back to good. Moose Edited by Minnemooseus, : Eastern time = Central time + 1hr, not - 1 hr.

I'm on this thread because "Essential Links" at the top said this is where to bring "bugs, problems, suggestions" and there is no other thread that seemed appropriate.
For a few days now I keep having the experience of trying to post a message and being sent to the log-in page instead, although my name is on the list at the top as being logged in. This happens even if I log in again, and even if I log in many times. I've lost some posts because of it but then I learned to copy and save them. Sometimes if I log in and log out a number of times a post will go through but not always. Sometimes if I reboot the computer the problem may go away but not always. Eventually something resets and I can post again but I don't know what happened to make that possible. Sometimes I have more than one page of EvC open when I'm looking up old posts, and sometimes one is logged in and the other isn't so I've thought that could have caused the problem, but the problem persists even when only one page is open. This time I tried almost a dozen times doing this and that until I could finally post without being redirected to the log in page, and as I said, I have no idea what action or combination of actions finally cleared up the problem. Now I'm copying this message and pasting it in my email in case I lose it. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

You might try clearing the cookies for evcforum.net
Others might have better enlightenment on this question. Moose

It does sound like a cookie problem. Log in credentials are stored in cookies. My guess is that you've managed to get cookies stored under both "evcforum.net" and "
EvC Forum: Home Page
". Both the webhost and the software force accesses to "evcforum.net" to morph into "
EvC Forum: Home Page
", but I suppose it could still happen.
You use Internet Explorer, and I'm on my Mac right now and can't check out the cookie deletion details of IE. If you know how, delete all cookies associated with "evcforum.net" (enter "delete cookies ie specific" into Google for instructions). If you don't know how then just delete all cookies, which has the drawback that you'll have to log in to all websites again.
