What would your doctor say if you mentioned at a consultation that you regularly had conversations with God, and God tells you to do things?
You hear God's voice as if He was there in the room with you and he chats away about a variety of things. What do you think your doctor would say?
Brian.
Why do you even care?

Re: I wonder what I would do!
The engine by which mystical ideation becomes cultural doctrine includes three primary components: insanity, evil, and feebleness of mind.
Evil?

Re: I wonder what I would do!
Do you think churches are immune from this?
To me, I think you'll find the devil, or evil, more in the church than anywhere ewlse. Sad but true. It's a combination of people seeking a place where evil shouldn't exist, and people confusing church with God. People are tender and vulnerable when they go to church, so anything that would happen there would be amplified.
But my reference to the word evil, in context from what you posted is, that to me, if evil exists, then it is a possible evidence for God's existance. But I guess that person wasn't trying to disprove God?

Re: touchy
So, what did your doc say, I seem to have struck a nerve there?
No, you didn't strike a nerve. I just don't understand why someone who believes that God doesn't exist at all, would even be concerned. I don't even think it is possible to be an atheist.
I don't think I ever told my doctor, but I used to work in a hospital for 11 years. Most doctors are no different than you or I. Some by there experiences in trying to save lives, come to realize that there is more, and there is a God, others by there education, are not sure. I think any good scientist, or medical person should be agnostic anyway.
But I am my own doctor in a sense, and I have always said that the day I felt the Holy Spirit (since that is when I started feeling something more than just plain faith) was either the day I went crazy, or the day I got just a little taste of who and what God is all about. I continue to learn more about Him, and myself throughout this journey.
I expect others who haven't felt this to think I am crazy, as did I before I felt it. So I guess I understand your question.
My only thought to you is that you would hopefully remain open minded, and seek God in your own way.

Re: touchy
But I honestly do not see me returning to the fold, I have discovered far too many problems with the arguments for the existence of God.
I don't even think you should be paying attention to "the arguements" for the existance of God. There has only been one way that I could ever prove God, and that is attempting to love others, the way I believe He loves me.

Re: touchy
Have you had much success at this endeavor?
I enjoy loving others the way God loves me, and sharing that joy with those around me. I would say the sucess is God's, and the people who come to Him, and that I just get to enjoy it happen. It is encouraging to me.
It can sometimes be a long process, or an immediate one. I am either planting a seed, or watering one, it's whatever I think God tells me to do at the moment. Sometimes it is nothing at all. I think being obedient is what is important.

Re: evil
This is one possibility. Common to all religions eh?
Then that makes a whole lot a people schizonphrenic. Since schizophrenia is a medical condition, isn't it easily provable that someone has it, by measuring dopamine levels in the brain?
If it is provable, then everyone who claims to hear from God, should have these imalances if God doen't exist.
Or it could be the other way around. People who you think are schizophrenic, are actually hearing from God, and you suffer from another condition which prevents you from actually seeing spiritual stuff, or hearing from God.
I have always felt there was a fine line between our own imaginations, and what is actually God. I believe it is possible to confuse the two.

Re: evil
There is a measurable brain pattern associated with religious behavior
I sure would hope so.
The question is, does this have anything to do with schizophrenia?
Also a possiblity, but remember that this occurs in ALL religions. It may be a communication, but the receiving hardware is not capable of "getting" the complete message and makes a hash of it. -- static\noise ignored?
Absolutely. It is extremely difficult to hear from God. It all starts with your character, then goes from there. For me it is usually the first thought I recieve, then the second thought is my flesh trying to rationalize the first thought away. The first thought has to go through all the BS that is our brains, and life. Remember His ways are not our ways, so it is not natural thinking.

Re: touchy
I'm an atheist, it is in my nature to care about all living things.
Are you for abortion, or against it?
