Re: Boasting
Of course that's always possible.
Is it also possible that the people making these statements aren't exaggerating?
(though I do agree with you that stating that one has an exemplary moral character is useless at best since it is unverifable on an internet forum [and by whose morals is one exemplary? and probably everywhere else])

Possible, but, I think, very unlikely.
(I'm just going on my experience of human nature).

Re: Boasting
As I said before, constant robust awe or enthusiasm for the wonder of life is an exaggeration.
Saying that one has an exemplary moral character is an exaggeration.
Yes, you have made that claim many times, but have never explained or justified it.
I am constantly in awe at the depth of knowledge of many members here at EvC. How is that an exaggeration?
I am constantly in awe of the universe around me. Just the other evening we had a rain shower, an unusual event down here, and suddenly thousands of little snails showed up. It was awesome. Where did they come from? Is that exaggeration?
Why is saying that you have an exemplary moral character an exaggeration? All it means is that it is a character that could be emulated.

Constantly? No rest for the weary from this pretence?

The author gave you an example of his moral character. You don't feel that what he listed is worth emulating?
I have no criminal record. I have committed no crimes that aren't victimless (such as speeding). I sacrifice for the good of others in various ways. I am honest and care for people in my locality. I am the best, most loyal friend you will ever have if you are so lucky as to earn my regard. I have a carefully considered moral code that I adhere to strenuously.

The author said nothing about constant awe. Besides, unless you actually have met this person and know them personally, you really don't know that they are exaggerating.
I love life with robust enthusiasm, be it in appreciation for the sunshine after a week of cloudy skies, or in the intellectual pleasure of vigorous disagreement here at EvC.
It is all part of the wonder of living...
Again, just because you don't know anyone like that or feel it is impossible, doesn't mean that it is.

What pretence? And how can being constantly surprised weary one?

It's psychologically impossible to be "constantly surprised." Surprise depends on rarity of occurrence--at least the kind of "surprise" you are talking about.
One of the qualities of the human mind is HABITUATION. We grow used to things. We grow tired of things. We after awhile are unmoved by that which moved us before.

So you say. But I guess my experience proves you wrong. There is not a single day where I am not really surprised by something, that I do not find something of wonder that carries me on for days, sometimes for years of enjoyment.
For example...
How can that not surprise one and provide yet more confirmation of the wonder of nature?

The best way is to treat life like a journey and to try to move forward with new experiences, IMHO. This can often lead to one rediscovering the initial attraction of something (or someone ;-)) that has become tiresome...
Even a full circle can be a journey!
Sounds like you're more than a little fed-up at the moment....

What? You don't believe people can be loyal friends either?

Re: Boasting
Would you please just go ahead and vomit, you annoying pedant? Regurgitation instead of repitition would be an interesting change from you.
We all get it. You think that I am a few others here are boastful. Fine. You're wrong, of course, but feel free to think it. You've made it clear. Now would you please for the love of everything shut the hell up and move on? Give over the use of the damned bandwidth to something a little more productive then whining "Look at how bad these people are and see how clever I am for pointing it out! See how good I am for not doing what THEY do!"
Also, I asked once but you were apparently too tied up in your own skewed little world to remember. I will thus "shout" it at you:
DO NOT QUOTE ME AND THEN ATTACK MY POSITIONS OR CHARACTER WITHOUT AT LEAST ADMITTING WHO YOU ARE ATTACKING!"
Yes, I am annoyed. People who are immune to reason tend to do that to me.
Admins, I will accept whatever disciplinary action you deem needed for this post. I realize it was a personal attack, but I have been subject to them from RR for this entire thread.

What's next? A picture of the Andromeda Galaxy? Spouting whales?
A few weeks ago I went with my wife to the VA hospital locally (she was signing up for benefits). While she was filling out paperwork, I wandered around. I happened to go out this door into a sort of patio, and there I saw a lot of old men. Many of them were missing limbs. They didn't look like they had much money either. Shabbily dressed. Veterans of some war or other.
It was terrible. My heart went out to them.
Life.
