I was only trying to give an atheist something to think about. Oh, so atheists haven't thought about it already?! In my opinion it is the believers who haven't thought things through.

LDSdude writes: can you imagine your current mind just...............gone? Of course I can, it's simple. All I have to do is think of the time before I was born. My mind was just... not there. There was nothing for me before my birth. I had no life to live yet, I had no influence in the world, I didn't know what was happening in the world. I was just just... not there! Pretty much as you described. And you know what? I didn't care, just as I won't care after I die. So, for consistency's sake, I might as well not care now. I think I'll just have some fun in the mean time, if it's allright with you.
LDSdude writes: what is the purpose of your lives? One of the perks of being an atheist is that you get to decide yourself what you want the purpose of your life to be. You can be the atheist version of Mother Theresa if you want. Or you can be a worthless shit. It's up to you. Now, isn't that great?
LDSdude writes: Is it to spend one-sixth of your life on the toilet? I can't think of any reason why anyone would spend such an inordinate amount of time on the toilet, or it must be that they are scared so shitless of their god and the concept of hell that consequently they must try really long and hard to produce even the tiniest of turds. We atheists can produce crap by the bucketful in no time at all, as is shown in this paragraph.
LDSdude writes: It can't be to learn everything you can, because once you're dead it's of no influence to you. But it's fun anyway. And besides, as long as I'm still alive, it's of tremendous influence to me.
LDSdude writes: So seriously, I just want to know what an Atheist honestly expects after he/she dies. So seriously: nothing, period.
LDSdude writes: I don't want to know what happens to your body, I want to know what happens to your personality. I am my body, so if I can't tell you what happens to it, I can't answer your question. We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further. - Richard Dawkins

Well, Message 1 is a viewpoint somewhat contrary to yours.
IMHO there would be a whole bunch of Atheists in line ahead of many, many Christians. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

I am, depending upon who you talk to, either an "Agnostic", or and "Agnostic Athiest".
At any rate, I don't know if God/gods exist or not, as there is no evidence for it/them. I don't rule it out, though, but I see no reason to believe at this time.

quote: Yes.
quote: Yes.
quote: Uh, that's not a particular purpose, really, but a necessity.
quote: For me, it certainly is.
quote: But it has influence for me while I'm here. The pleasure of learning is the process of it, not the "knowing stuff" at the "end".
quote: Hopefully I will have conducted my life in such a way that some will remember me fondly and they will tell stories about me for generations to come, but it doesn't bother me that it is quite likely that someday, nobody will remember me. I have today, and my short life to enjoy and make the most of. I'm not waiting for some unknown, hoped-for afterlife to relish and experience life to the fullest.

quote: Then shouldn't you believe equally in every single religion in the world, "just in case" you are wrong about Christianity? After all, you yourself are an athiest in that you disbelieve all of the other gods except the Christian one. People who call themselves "Athiest" simply disbelieve one more than you do.

Why take the chance and not believe? So why take a chance and not believe in Odin? Why not hedge your bets and start following every religion you can find?
If I'm wrong, then there is no after life and I have lost nothing is this life. If you are wrong, then there is eternal punishment to pay for not believing. Maybe you're wrong and there is an afterlife, just not one governed by your god, and you get the eternal punishment for not believing. *not an actual doctor

What happens after death for an Atheist. No one knows, but it's the same thing that's going to happen to you.

They probably expect to be dead all over just like rover, but what really happens is their eternal soul will burn forever in hell. I wondered who was going to start the religious prickwaving. Congratulations!

Para writes: You can be the atheist version of Mother Theresa if you want. Or you can be a worthless shit. Neither of those possibilities appeal to me. Any other suggestions? Damned if I can come up with a purpose for my having existed. I would like something attractive and interesting--if possible. Also, I wouldn't mind being fairly important. Hi, Rob, for something worthwhile, start your own religion. Easy entrance, plenty of side benefits, glorious afterlife. Just don`t forget to stress to bring plenty money.

quote:Where does Jesus teach that a person's "eternal soul" will burn in hell forever? Is the soul combustible? A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Is the soul combustible?
And, if so, what is its caloric output compared to natural gas or propane?
