I am, depending upon who you talk to, either an "Agnostic", or and "Agnostic Athiest".
At any rate, I don't know if God/gods exist or not, as there is no evidence for it/them. I don't rule it out, though, but I see no reason to believe at this time.
quote:
So seriously, I just want to know what an Atheist honestly expects after he/she dies.
The honest answer to what I expect after I die is, "I don't know."
Nobody knows.
I think it is highly likely that when one's brain dies, it is the complete end. Nothingness.
quote:
If so, what is the purpose of your lives? To have fun?
Yes.
quote:
To make things better for generations to come?
Yes.
quote:
Is it to spend one-sixth of your life on the toilet?
Uh, that's not a particular purpose, really, but a necessity.
quote:
Is it to see the world?
For me, it certainly is.
quote:
Huh? It can't be to learn everything you can, because once you're dead it's of no influence to you.
But it has influence for me while I'm here. The pleasure of learning is the process of it, not the "knowing stuff" at the "end".
quote:
There is no you. There would be no anything as far as you'd be concerned.
Hopefully I will have conducted my life in such a way that some will remember me fondly and they will tell stories about me for generations to come, but it doesn't bother me that it is quite likely that someday, nobody will remember me.
I have today, and my short life to enjoy and make the most of. I'm not waiting for some unknown, hoped-for afterlife to relish and experience life to the fullest.

Re: Reply to DrJones*
quote:
Why take the chance and not believe? If I'm wrong, then there is no after life and I have lost nothing is this life. If you are wrong, then there is eternal punishment to pay for not believing.
Then shouldn't you believe equally in every single religion in the world, "just in case" you are wrong about Christianity?
After all, you yourself are an athiest in that you disbelieve all of the other gods except the Christian one.
People who call themselves "Athiest" simply disbelieve one more than you do.

I'd like to know what you think will happen to you, LDSdude, after you die. If you expect to go to Heaven, what will you do there?
I think Mormons are supposed to become gods themselves have lots of celestial sex to produce lots of celestial babies.
