On two separate occasions, I have seen two moons.
The first time it became clear on further observation that one of them was a weather balloon, the only one I have ever seen. It was later confirmed on the news that it was a weather balloon but it had also been reported by several people as a UFO. The second time I was in a bus shelter and I knew that one of the moons was a reflection. I used my powers of deduction to conclude that the one in the west must have been the reflection because the sun was behind it. I think it's almost certain that there is life on other planets and it's fairly likely that some of those life-forms are intelligent. It's even likely that some of them have technology far beyond ours. But it seems pretty unlikely that they have the technology to visit us - and even if they did, they'd have a lot of other places to go that would be more interesting. An honest discussion is more of a peer review than a pep rally. My toughest critics here are the people who agree with me. -- ringo |

Wikipedia does.
Does anyone have any explanation for how this occurred?

The easiest thing to do is make up a "supernatural" explanation.
All you science aficionados really need to learn that the easiest thing to do is rationalize something away.

You don't need to study anything at all to come up with a "supernatural" explanation.
Vallee studied the UFO phenomena for years.

You said in Message 132, "...Jacques Vallee who rightly concluded that they simply do not obey physical laws...." Vallee did because he doesn't believe in tne supernatural.... That's supernatural.

It isn't a "reasonable" explanation. It's an excuse to stop looking for an explanation.
HE DISCOVERED THAT WAS THE ONLY REASONABLE EXPLANATION. Faith writes:
It doesn't matter what term he used. It's clear he was taking the easy way out with folklore/superstition.
I DON'T KNOW IF HE USED THAT TERM EITHER, "SUPERNATURAL," BUT HE WAS REFERRING TO THE "BEINGS" DESCRIBED IN "FOLKLORE."

I have never heard any Christian of any stripe who "think" that. The Biblical Christians think that it is quite possible that the antichrist could successfully be introduced as an alien and that this would increase his credibility."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

You really need to read. You really need to get out more. You said, "The Biblical Christians think that it is quite possible that the antichrist could successfully be introduced as an alien and that this would increase his credibility." Then you quoted, "Why Christian Fundamentalists Think Aliens Are Really Demons". Nothing about any antichrist there. I have met one or two looney-toons who think UFOs are demons. I have never met anybody who thinks the antichrist will be an alien. If you can show that anybody does, go ahead.

Nobody would be likely to mistake him for Christ.
If a man of darkness or perdition or a human infused with evil incarnate (in direct rebellion to Jesus (infused with the power of the One True GOD) were to ever actually exist and show up... Phat writes:
A better way would be to pose as a Christian. ...what better way to win the hearts and minds of the educated elite than saying he was simply an alien from another place in the physical universe?"I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

That seems to be the way the Bible tells it.

That too is a distinct possibility. A better way would be to pose as a Christian. Phat writes:
On the contrary, if he claimed to be a space alien, nobody would take him seriously. They'd put him in a straight-jacket. Though in that case, nobody would take him seriously. Posing as a wise alien would allow him credibility (and awe)"I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

When the Bible was written, the authors were not thinking about "secular humanist thinkers". They were thinking about Jews and pagans.
Imagine if there were an antichrist. His main mission? Deceiving the whole world and leading us away from Christ. Were he to show up as a larger-than-life charismatic figure, he may well dazzle the Christians, but in order to dazzle the secular humanist critical thinkers... Phat writes:
He couldn't impress the evidence-based mind without evidence. You can only fool people with false gods and false doctrines if they don't require evidence. ... he would need to impress the secular mind. The evidence-based mind."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

The same applies to leprechauns, Bigfeet, Loch Ness Monsters, etc.
If aliens showed up, were photographed, interviewed, (or at least interviewed about and otherwise documented, people would have their precious evidence. Phat writes:
What a stupid thing to say. They would have captured our minds via the Trojan Horse of documented evidence. We would still be deceived. In your bizzaro world, evidence is deception? Give your head a shake."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

Not "unlike Jesus". He did impress the earthy masses. What if such a figure were allowed to talk to the earthly masses and ended up impressing them? (Unlike Jesus who was persecuted by the authorities)"I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

And that has nothing to do with aliens. What I mean is that he would impress the establishment as well as dupe the masses."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing

One could reason that He was not of any world, except the imagination.
One could reason that Jesus was not of this world. Phat writes:
Then of you're oppressed by a virus, you're an alien? I don't think that idea is going anywhere. By extension, a human possessed (as opposed to being oppressed, which we all are) by spirits is in a sense an alien."I've been to Moose Jaw, now I can die." -- John Wing
