Re: most Muslim countries don't have
In the thread on vaccinations, Buz writes:
My points are relative to the profit incentive to invention and administration of an ever increasing number of shots when other safer methodologies are being undermined and neglected by conventional medical science.
Don't you wish that he'd apply this same skepticism to his anti-Muslim sources?

In many respects, the Bible was the world's first Wikipedia article. -- Doug Brown (quoted by Carlin Romano in The Chronicle Review)

Re: The Obama/Osama connection?
2. With Islam, it is the epitamy of insult to renounce Islam by apostacism. Even as a youngster after his changed schools, not a whisper of complaint by any of his Muslim associates and mentors evidenced.
He changed schools aged 10.
Apparently he's been a stealth Muslim since ... 1971.
Gosh, that is forward planning. They had him all set up to undermine a war on terror that wasn't even scheduled to start for another 30 years.
"Can we start the armed struggle against the Great Satan yet?"
"No, we're waiting for Barack Obama to grow up."

More on Obama the Manchurian Muslim Candidate
I'm trying to catch up on my reading, and I've just finished an interesting article from The Nation, the 12 November issue, entitled, "The New Right-Wing Smear Machine," by Christopher Hayes.
The article concerns the use of internet email to mass broadcast rumors and made up stories about political candidates, usually rumors made up by Right Wingers about Democratic candidates. It uses examples designed to smear Kerry in the previous election and Clinton in the present one. I bring it up since the last few paragraphs talk about the Obama-is-a-secret-Muslim fiasco -- it was traced to a nut named Andy Martin.
My apologies, Buz -- and here I thought you made this one up all by yourself!

Progress in human affairs has come mainly through the bold readiness of human beings not to confine themselves to seeking piecemeal improvements in the way things are done, but to present fundamental challenges in the name of reason to the current way of doing things and to the avowed or hidden assumptions on which it rests. -- E. H. Carr

Re: The Obama/Osama connection?
Hey, brenna, as far as your OP goes I saw a relatively large segment of Obama's ummmm... thing... where he mentions building a kingdom.
Like you, I cringe at theological language, and he seems to keep using it. Then again as NJ states, it may be for political reasons and he has stated other dems need to discuss their faith more (presumably for that reason).
While I winced when he said it, from what I understood he was actually suggesting that people worry less about huge theological concerns and more about their everyday lives. Don't worry about end times and after death, but focus on making a good life on earth.
My only problem with Obama, who right now I definitely would vote for if he was a candidate, is his excess religious verbiage and his seemingly fanatical support for Israel. Every time I've seen him questioned on that subject he shuts it down hard. And I don't mean by giving a reasonable answer. At one campaign stop he gave a brief "they're the only democracy in the region and our friends" then pretty well turned his back on the woman and walked away. Mmmmmm, didn't like that.
I've been waiting to see him in a spot where he has to answer the question in a thoughtful way. If anyone knows of such a case I'd be interested in knowing what he said.
Anyway, that sort of defies Buz's theory. I doubt an Islamic radical is going to be that pro-Israel. Then again maybe that's his cover, and he keeps dodging the question to avoid accidentally screeching death to Israel.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if he is indeed trying to cover his Islamic radical root. After all, the gay republicans who got caught trying to get a bj at a public restrooms or having "sexual immoralities" with male prostitutes were always the ones that had the loudest voice against homosexuals.
But what do I know about Obama? All I know is I'm not voting this upcoming primary.

Yeah, I saw you decided not to vote... but I am wondering what you had against Obama up till now.
Besides those two negatives I mentioned, I think he's refreshing and intelligent.

Yep. Like I said if anyone else knows where I can find him explaining his position on Israel beyond such banter, I would seriously like to see it.

Re: The Obama/Osama connection?
none of the israeli apologists will ever explain themselves. it's so patently obvious that we have to be friends with israel that it doesn't require explaining. *rolls eyes* either way, it doesn't make good sense in general, much less using it to get elected. but there's those large blocks of jewish voters on either side of the aisle and the fundies are up for grabs this year. he's got hi-igh hopes.
he's an interesting fellow. i have yet to decide, myself. but, this next year will be very exciting.

Re: The Obama/Osama connection?
Unless Biden (is he still in?) or Clinton end up in the Dem spot, this will be the first time in years that I'll actually like who I'm voting for. And it will be quite exciting.
If Ron Paul ends up in the Rep spot... it'll end up being the first election ever that I'll feel proud to be an American.
Two people that aren't recent party line would be very cool.

Would you vote for a monkey?
Ok, sorry... I'm not entirely sure I want someone who can't go on for a day without trying to tell the world he's a very religious man. I used to support him all the way. But recently, I have been watching democratic debates and have found myself not liking him anymore... or Hillary. If it comes to it, I'd rather vote for Fred Phelps. At least he's honest.

Woah. Tell me you didn't just say that about an African-american presidential candidate.

Re: The Obama/Osama connection?
I said I was sorry. Trust me, I would have said the same if it was Hillery or Fred Phelps or Kerry. Motivation behind that wasn't racist in nature.
