So much easier when you could call the 'boys' workin y'alls yard "niggas" eh Scarlet? So much more descriptive ... Can't deal with the true meaning of what's being said, I guess. So much easier to smear your opponent as a racist. Typical mindless categorizing kneejerk PC.
The black panthers did not shoot Martin Luther King. Or lynch people. True, they killed people for no social or political reason, being garden variety criminals.
The black panthers also did not 'create' PC or have anything to do with it. Well, they benefited from it. The intellectual lefties invented it for them.

My you have a strange inability to grasp the point here. I'm talking about the general effect of social opprobrium, peer pressure, the lack of exposure to different points of view -- so often the case in universities today too. It's not too far from the situation in Communist countries where nobody could say anything against the establishment, but beyond that it's hard to develop a clear thought of your own when you are surrounded by people who have a political agenda they trumpet in loud tones of righteous indignation, while treating all differing views with contempt. Stand back and consider the way people have been dealing with Robin on these threads for having the temerity to be politically incorrect.
I suppose there must have been conservatives in Berkeley who had my same reaction but I didn't know I was a conservative so I wouldn't have sought them out. I felt alienated in the midst of it all but I couldn't really analyze it clearly until I got older, got out of Berkeley, and read revelations and analyses of the 60s movements that explained and validated what I'd experienced. My you have a strange inability to grasp the point here. I'm talking about the general effect of social opprobrium, peer pressure, the lack of exposure to different points of view -- so often the case in universities today too. Oh. So you are talking about people not liking you, and saying so. You just feel pressured because so many people don't like you. I just figured that when you said "enforced prohibition," you meant... y'know. That someone was actually prohibiting something by force.
It's not too far from the situation in Communist countries where nobody could say anything against the establishment Except that, apparently, you get internet access in the gulag.

Explain how falsely accusing your opponent of being a racist is PC? Doc, being a racist is the worst thing you can be in PC-land. It's worse than murder. So if you really want to insult someone, insinuate that he or she is a racist. Edited by robinrohan, : No reason given.

PC is a system which defines people as morally offensive in certain set categories. It's categorical thinking, not genuine thinking, and its purpose is intimidation and control. Ability to analyze the complexity of motives is sadly lacking in those of this frame of reference. Anyone who questions PC is suspected, no, declared guilty, of all the offenses in the PC arsenal. I'm "Scarlet" -- a racist I guess? -- because of what I've been saying here, though I see not one racist word in any of it myself. But everyone who objects to PC is a racist or a Nazi or an imperialist pig to the PC mentality. There is no such thing as having a true thought, because they don't, so you *must* think the things they oppose. Whether you actually do or not is irrelevant, you *must.*
Something like that.

I thought Dan was right on the button - especially on your whacked out "no grip on reality" comparison about being at a university and living in a communist country.

I "believe" you are misreading Schraf's post.
She is saying that denegrating language USE to be normal in what was considered polite society. It is the work of those that Faith and Robin are whining about that made people realize that these words DO dehumanize people and are WRONG to use.

Typical puerile nonsense. Sorry I bothered. And for my part, I will note for future reference that if "social opprobrium" and "peer pressure" are levied against you, it does not mean that people don't like you, it is in fact "enforced prohibition." But if there is a case of "enforced prohibition", it does not mean that something is being prohibited by force. See, I'm learning. Edited by Dan Carroll, : No reason given.
