Forum: Geology and the Great Flood Thread: OEC vs YEC Issues Message #: 194 Not so much a great message, but I thought this book reference needed to be flagged somehow. Quoting his entire message:
For Faith and any other YECs who may be lurking here who are wondering about dating, I highly recommend Dan Wonderly's book "God's Time Records in Ancient Sediments". Dan was a geology professor for a short time at Grace College (John Whitcomb was on faculty at the seminary). Dan did not have expertise in radiometric dating, so his book focuses exclusively on non-radiometric evidence for an old earth. The book is a bit dated now, but is still quite good. Presented in a rather clumsy manner, with links to individual pages. But my impression from a brief look was that this was a pretty good discourse on some basic geology. Moose

Forum: Geology and the Great Flood Thread: Glenn Morton's Evidence Examined Message #: 412 In a way, the OE theory is incidental to finding oil - but to find oil it is necessary to understand how the rocks formed, how they changed after they were formed, etc. Finding oil comes from that understanding and so does the realization that the rocks must be old. In my opinion, the essence of the downfall of young Earthism, among those having a geology knowledge. Moose

Forum: Coffee House Thread: Gay Marriage as an attack on Christianity Message #: 208 In support of the (for lack of a better phrase) "don't go too far when promoting pro-LGBT policy" theme. From the message end:
They apply to everybody. We all get annoyed by the behaviour of others. Some things are worth the effort of doing something about it, somethings aren't. As the the lawyers say, 'having principles can be expensive.' Sometimes it's better to just shrug it off. I'm not attempting to tell individuals what to do - if you want to kick back at the bigots now that you can, go ahead, it makes for great reading. Everytime it happens I think great, bagged another bastard. But at some point it's going to look like you've got a real chip on your collective shoulders - deserved or otherwise. If you want to win the hearts of the nation you've just conquered on the battlefield, it's generally thought a bad idea to bayonet their wounded. The word magnanimous springs to mind. Forum: Biological Evolution Thread: How do you define the word Evolution? Message #: 110 Quality happens in a rather dismal topic. The concluding sentence:
Nature ran a lottery - it was virtually certain that some form of life would win it - and the form of life which has won it to date, is the form we see today. Forum: Biological Evolution Thread: Evidence for Evolution: Whale evolution Message #: 430 Replies to Drudge in a stunningly coherent manner (relatively speaking), to why there is is limit to how fast a human can run. And, sad to say, a much better reply that all the other replies to the same message. Alas, he followed up this POTM message with one of considerably lesser quality. Post: message 3626 Thread: The Trump Presidency In: Coffee House Hasn't been a POTM in a long time. Now here's one. Moose ps - This is also an example of of proper link that does not go to the right message. Well, at first it goes to the correct message, then jumps to somewhere else. Look downthread for 3626. Forum: Intelligent Design Thread: The Power of the New Intelligent Design... Message : 83 Posts of the month are a near extinct item, but I think dwise pulled one off. A fine message of what is intelligent design and what isn't intelligent design. Maybe the best I've seen. Essentially, intelligent design results in getting a good result of optimal simplicity, while evolution results in getting a good(???) result of excessive complexity. Or something like that. In a way, Hamas, as well as Fatah and Hezbollah, are the creation of Israel. They only exist in their current form as mostly military organizations opposed to Israel's existence because Israel inflicts unending suffering and hardship on Palestinians, which only perpetuates an unending cycle of violence. My position also. MooseProfessor, geology, Whatsamatta U Evolution - Changes in the environment, caused by the interactions of the components of the environment.
