all im saying is that belief need not be required to rest on evidence. It can stand alone...subjectively.

Interesting discussion
Straggler writes: Let's say nobody knows about the tape. Let's say the tape is tucked down the back of a sofa in the basement of an empty house that nobody will ever visit. That doesn't mean the tape doesn't exist does it? You preface the statement with "lets say". Thus...between you and I..the tape exists...but nobody else knows about it.

Straggler writes: call it X and say you don't know or believe anything about it because you couldn't possibly know or believe things about a completely undefined conceptless concept. An agnostic may well call "it" X. An atheist would only see a blank sheet of paper and would ask us why we are calling nothing anything.

After all this time you still continue to misrepresent atheism and atheists. Is it willful or are you truly this ignorant? There is one who knows exactly what you think and how. He knows you better than you know yourself. End of story. You can plug your ears, laugh, or angrily attack me for expressing my belief on this forum. Furthermore, you have no idea of how ignorant I am. It would be wise of you, however, to explain why you think I am wrong rather than rant. If you choose to participate, that is

So, again, my question is, since gravity is the fundamental force of the universe as we know it, why isn't it mentioned as the very first thing god created? The Bible was and is metaphorical and symbolic. It is not a science book nor was it ever intended to be one. It is quite a decent psychology primer, however. People behaving badly. The creative metaphor is light. Im sure that super novas fit within this metaphor quite well...as does the process of illumination...the light bulb that goes on over our heads when we think of something new. jar writes: Do you believe that GOD does nothing in your life currently? (Either by way of the Holy Spirit or by way of speaking through others?) in addition to fools, con-men and charlatans, idiots, the deluded, wishful thinkers, infants and the willfully ignorant might also claim god did it. I am assuming that you are going to ask "how" He does this....and "how" you would know.

You are saying that your would "test" God once He was proven, and yet you are confidant that your Deity of choice---science--will forever insulate you from having to be accountable.
As a believer, I dont like being accountable either...its that inner nature of mine that wants to be "in control" and independent. I suppose this post will get another negative rantfrom Theodoric...who claims I know nothing about how atheists think. I can never challenge him, however, since he and others like you refuse to even care about why I think the way I do. God bless all of you anyway.

Tangle, replying to jar writes: Humans cannot define the impossible. We cannot declare anything to be impossible, since at best we have but theories.
That, dear Jar, is what the supernatural IS, or is supposed to be - the impossible happening. If you want to define it away, so that it can't happen linguistically, you're just messing around with words not meanings and I have no time for that crap.

tangle writes: We cannot say either way. There were eyewitnesses, but the stories may have changed.
Then I'm sure you'll agree with me that the 'miracles' in the bible, including Christ's resurrection, were not miracles at all.

Personally, of course I believe. My opinions on the matter is that truth is truth regardless of who believes or acknowledges it as such. God created humanity long before we even had the wisdom to believe...or doubt...or declare the impossibility of His existence.

So what's all this about not knowing that something is a miracle or not? You plainly do. I believe it. You don't. Technically I cant say I know it(except in my heart) Neither do you.

Of course. I probably baffle myself sometimes, and jumped into the conversation on a lark. I suppose that my original point was that we humans cannot clearly define what is and is not impossible. We can only verify what is possible.

Seems pretty simple to me. You resist the verification. Your resistance makes it "impossible" for you.
