Author | Topic: What are the Degrees of Fundamentalism? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Is God in charge of Nature or not? No.
Is God omnipotent or not? Unknown.
What sort of God are you following? The Christian GOD, in fact the only GOD. There is absolutely no reason to bring GOD into the equation to explain natural occurrences. We know what caused the tsunamis, the hurricanes, why they struck where they did when the did and why the destruction levels were as they were. To say that GOD is in charge of Nature and that the storms, earthquakes, tsunamis, desease or any other such event is God's wrath or judgement is Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit. Funny how you carry on about how the creation, the universe, is proof of God, but then you deny his sovereignty over it.
Well I've already made my point from scripture that God rules all things, so how about a couple of traditional hymns that say the same thing. Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature, http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/f/a/l/faljesus.htm Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still knowHis voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below. http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/b/e/bestill.htm

Funny how you carry on about how the creation, the universe, is proof of God, but then you deny his sovereignty over it. Please point out where I have EVER said anything is proof of GOD? What I said is that YOUR attributing horrific events like the tragedy of hurricanes, tsunamis or other natural disasters that we understand fairly well to some Divine Retribution is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps I didn't say it quite correctly: not proof of God, but that God "wrote" the creation, it's His Bible. If so, then He has charge of it.

Yes you do, otherwise everything you say is BS. You claim to be better "grounded in scripture" than me. You could be grounded all you like, but if you don't have a personal relationship with God, and confer with Him in everything you do, then you are not worshiping Him in spirit and truth. It's just your interpretation, or what was taught to you. This is common knowledge to a Christian and it's not something to be talked about like this.

Yeah, right Faith.
Perhaps I didn't say it quite correctly: not proof of God, but that God "wrote" the creation, it's His Bible. If so, then He has charge of it. No, again, you are still misrepresenting my position. GOD does not have to step in and personally direct everthing that happens, He was bettern that and created something that runs and is self healing. Part of that is change and evolution. To attribute things like what happened in New Orleans or Indonesia to Divine Intervention is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, attributing horrific events to the intent of GOD. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

You deny what the scripture says, some of which I quoted. The Book of Job is also full of references to God's sovereignty over nature.
If Jesus rules the winds and waves, as the hymn says, is the ruler of all Nature as the other hymn says, then He has control over what a hurricane does. You prefer your own sentimental idea of God to what He has revealed about Himself, as do so many others here. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

You are like the leaders of Israel who stoned the prophets who warned them of coming judgment. Like the false prophet Hananiah who prophesied peace when Jeremiah was prophesying destruction and captivity. They persecuted Jeremiah for telling the truth. According to Jesus they murdered the prophet Zechariah.
God withheld rain at the prayer of Elijah and ended the famine as well. God does all these things. Did God bring the destruction of Jerusalem at the hands of the Romans in 70 AD or did that one just sort of escape Him too? Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

So as per the OP, are you at the far end of Fundamentalism? I mean would you say that your version of bible literacy is at the extreme?
You wanna be, uhh, blunt about what has taken place, sometimes when you don't measure, you just shuffle kids through. Then you wake up at the high school level and find out that the illiter -- literacy level of our children are appalling. -- It sure are, Dubya, it sure are... not to mention adults, Washington, D.C., Jan. 23, 2004

Faith writes: The Book of Job is also full of references to God's sovereignty over nature. There's a difference between sovereignty and micromanagement. The fundier the fundie, the pettier the god. So your God doesn't bother about sparrows that fall out of their nests, and hasn't counted every hair of your head? Mine has.

Faith writes: So your God doesn't bother about sparrows that fall out of their nests, and hasn't counted every hair of your head? God sees the sparrow fall - He doesn't necessarily rescue every one.If He did, we'd soon be knee-deep in sparrows. And the hairs of my head are numbered, not counted. Number 64278 fell out today - God didn't replant it. Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation. Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

Funny, I don't recall saying anything about rescuing the sparrow.
...or replanting hairs. Funny, such a huge difference between "counted" and "numbered." Changes the WHOLE meaning! My mistake I guess.

Save one over here, kill one over there, all to keep everything in perfect balance. I can see where that would keep a guy busy.
