just plain text would be great. we just need a list of names and universities that we can add email addresses to.

ok, i say we take cracks at this based on institution, since the campus directories are the best way to go.
(emails removed) Paul S. Darby: (not found) it seems that the people who say "ph.d. (institution)" is just where they got that degree -- they're not on staff there. this will make them much harder to find. i'll keep working on these four for now, and edit when i've got them. charles, would you like to keep the master list? Ronald S. Carson: (not found) i'm starting to see a pattern here -- most of these people don't seem to be scientists working at major institutions. they just seem to be phd grads. this is looking fishier by the second. This message has been edited by arachnophilia, 08-28-2005 04:51 PM

through late Wednesday evening Here you make sense of it, that's the best way to go Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I won't be around this Forum I am going to be out all day and throughout until late Wednesday evening Can you "do something" with this. Proposed New Topics I don't have time to think through or ever begin to rewrite this. I ask you to bring the it up (only because of two reasons) that I would ever expect you to even consider this. I ask only because I will simply let the topic alone You have an interests in "fundementals" and you can naturally shape-up my rambling remarks at such an issue as Early and Modern Man See: Look and take a close gaze at the time:*arachnophilia, Charles Knight, DBlevins, DrJones*, Faith This message has been edited by Godfearingatheist, 08-27-2005 06:52 PM

I think in the morning I will turn this into an excel - this has a number of benefits:
I can generate free text from it for here but.. we can more alter and add emails easierwe can fire off the questionnaire or questions in one go (I can produce a bulk email list) we can color-code the individuals by level of response etc. But yes I'll hand the master. yes I agree - I'll do a proper list in the morning but many seem to be grad students.

awesome, thanks.
many seem to be grad students. yeah. this is gonna be a problem. how do we find these people? wayback machine archive of student directories? maybe we can find alumni directories? (i found schraf that way once) it's just plain suspicious that a lot of these people don't seem to be working in the academic field... maybe we can include that as part of the questionaire, and sort responses by profession.

I think the fact that they are using grad students kind of points out a lot.

yes, i think so to.
especially when billed as "scientists." yes, they got their ph.d.'s and should be respected, but it's not exactly the same as a career research scientist working in the field of biology. wanna help me track these people down anyways? [edit] this is really frustrating. all i'm finding is copies of the list. it's like these people don't even exist. This message has been edited by arachnophilia, 08-27-2005 07:07 PM

If we want to do this we need to get organised and therefore can I suggest the following?
Activity 1: contact details I would suggest that the first objection is to obtain contact details for the people on the list, clearly this activity is on-going. I am happy to keep hold of the master list for this (and try and track down some of the names). Arch seems to be a fine taskmaster so I reckon he's the best man to keep an eye on this. Activity 2: questions and question areas The second aspect is to start to come up with the questions that we want to sent out. I suggest that we start a sister thread to this one to co-ordinate and discuss the questions that we want to ask? Activity 3: Technical issues around sending out survey and collecting results I have a number of ideas about the most effective way to do this but I think we need to settle 1&2 first? I am happy to keep hold of the master list for this (and try and track down some of the names). Arch seems to be a fine taskmaster so I reckon he's the best man to keep an eye on this. sure, i'll keep turning up emails as best as i can, too. other are free to help (please!). try to do it by institution, so we can keep it pretty simple.
Activity 2: questions and question areas The second aspect is to start to come up with the questions that we want to sent out. I suggest that we start a sister thread to this one to co-ordinate and discuss the questions that we want to ask? that's what i was thinking exactly. i'll probably propose a thread pretty soon about the questions. i have a few ideas, but i'll save it for the other thread.
Activity 3: Technical issues around sending out survey and collecting results I have a number of ideas about the most effective way to do this but I think we need to settle 1&2 first? yes, probably. my little brother is looking for a science fair project. so i might have him send out the questionaires. these people might be more prone to answer if it's coming from a 13 year old wanting to learn about science, and the id controversy.
