Re: I'm concerned this may not be a good idea...
I'm in two minds about it. I definitely think that the questionnaire or draft email should be written before any more email addresses, names and telephone numbers are posted on the web. I certainly wouldn't want my phone number posted here, no matter what I signed in the past.
If we write a proposed email that people wish to send out, then we can better decide whether it's worth doing.
I think in general it might be a useful thing. But the email would have to be VERY polite and perhaps not be associated specifically with evc forum (just to save Percy from headaches).
Mick

Re: I'm concerned this may not be a good idea...
hi arachnophilia and charles,
just a couple of further points -
I think the email should be signed by Charles (as he was the one who proposed it) and anybody else who makes a significant contribution to its content
The email would not be spam as it would be sent to known individuals identified for a specific purpose. Legally it isn't spam.
I think that a web survey with anonymity would be the only realistic way of doing it. Charles seems to know how to do this - i would also be happy to help as I've done auto-emails etc. before. On the question of spam, an assurance that email addresses on file will be destroyed after the survey is finished, etc., would probably be sensible.
If the admins are not keen on getting involved I suggest Charles put together an email list of those who are interested and it's carried out off-board. But having a record here at evc of the considerations that went into carrying out such a project would actually be quite useful. For example arranging such a project in association with a public web forum would guarantee at least some level of democracy and guarantee that creationists, ID supporters etc. might criticise the content of the web survey prior to it going out. So I hope you admin folks consider that!
Cheers
Mick
added in edit: of course, doing it privately might also prevent creationists, ID supporters etc from publicising the survey prior to going out, and generally might cause less fuss and make the survey results correspond better with reality...
