Hermann Meier? Thats an Austrian Skier! Surely you mean Goering.
"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

The Ukrainian conflict drags on. Many of us in the West were galvanized by the drama, spun into empathetic pleas of justice, from Vladimir Zalinsky. The villain--Putin--whose "special military operation" was directed against "Nazis in Ukraine." It seemed clear who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. Looking at our planet from a larger lens, the conclusion about who is good and who is "bad" seems to get murkier at times.
There are dissenting contrarians. Opinions. Articles that get me to think. I will discuss two. One is from a professor. Why Mearsheimer is wrong about Russia and the war in Ukraine. Five arguments from Alexander Stubb. John Mearsheimer has famously argued that the problems in Ukraine are the fault of the West. Im looking for something that he wrote rather than videos. He seems to make sense, though I have yet to listen to the rebuttal from Alexander Stubb. (Both are professors)"A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

Percy writes: To more fully summarize Mearsheimer, he says that we need to understand the History of Russian cultural differences and to also realize that Ukraine was trained by NATO for years on how to fight. It seems odd that you summarize Mearsheimer's views but post the video rebuttal from Stubb. It would be the equivalent of Canada seeking to join BRIC. The US would NOT put up with it. Percy writes: Guilty as charged, though I think you are driven by politics over substance. As an example, you totally vilified Peter Schiff simply because Irwin was his Father. That prevented you from even desiring to hear what Schiff has to say---chiefly because he dealt in Gold and was a Libertarian. None of that information should have caused you to reject hearing out Schiffs argument. You're still playing the game of "How do I choose who to listen to?" and your criteria is whoever catches your interest by getting you most excited. You're driven by emotion instead of information. And Financial Apologetics has a lot to do in a larger context with the War in Ukraine and global financial restructuring. Though true that I am driven by emotion, I end up finding information that is swept under the rug and ignored by mainstream economic (Federal) information. I dont mean to sound like a whacky conspiracy theory advocate, but I stand by my gut instinct over who has the correct explanations and understanding of global finance. Another financial apologist, George Gammon, spells it out on a whiteboard in exquisite detail. The problem is, I cant get anyone here to actually watch the explanation but only to dismiss it and go around it to arrive at Fed.Gov website or some other mainstream source. Sorry, but its not enough.I challenge you on what you really "know". Granted, I request that the information I get be at least considered to be true or not.

Percy writes: Fair enough. I can now see through careful re-reading that you were right. You vilified Schiff because you saw him as a uniformed fraud who merely tried to plug the gold that he was selling. It is clear, however, that you never listened to any of his shows. He was in fact right quite often. You didn't answer my response to your lie, and you didn't respond the previous time you uttered this lie, so this deserves another response. Look at his latest show, for example. He understands the global macro-economy much better than Janet Yellin or Jerome Powell. And it confirms what I suspected. The US Dollar is now the global hedge against inflation everywhere outside the US. The dollar has tried to replace Gold ever since Nixon separated the two.
TRANSCRIPT Transcript The video is actually audio and mirrors the transcript. It can be found here: A Tale Of Two Dollars I've listened to the show and can answer any question about the transcript. I'm not saying the guy is right about everything but he is far from a rube."A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." ~Mark Twain " *** “…far from science having buried God, not only do the results of science point towards his existence, but the scientific enterprise itself is validated by his existence.”- Dr.John Lennox “A God without wrath brought men without sin into a Kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a Cross.” “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him.” — Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You

Although Economics is being fought as a global conflict already, I will defer to your better judgment.
The topic has been relocated. It is now nearly one year later from the date of your post.
Theodoric opened up an interesting rabbit trail which led me back here. I recently watched a documentary from Frontline titled Putin and the Presidents The documentary showcases Vladimir Putin's diplomatic and public relationship with 6 US Presidents.
Theodoric piqued my interest over in Message 554

I've heard that the BRICS Nations are planning to eventually develop and implement an alternative global reserve currency system that challenges the US Dollar itself. What have you heard?

I seriously doubt it. Some think that this little war will morph into World War III.
Granted the US Dollar is seemingly secure and is still by far the most stable currency among the basket of global currencies known as the fiat money system that has essentially ruled the world of global finance since 1971, when President Nixon took us off of the gold standard. I maintain that while not particularly relevant at this stage of the conflict, the crack has appeared in our armor and will eventually widen. And by "us" I mean the Western Alliance that has squared off against Vladimir Putin and his bold and brash attempt to reassemble the former Soviet Union, in a sense. The link which you provided months ago and which I am just now reading mentions the politics behind the Duck Duck Go search engine. I use that search engine. And in context, I might mention my link to the Frontline Video again. I realize that we don't "debate by video" but Frontline did a very good job at documenting the mind of Vladimir Putin from his days as a KGB junior officer stationed in East Germany around the time that Ronald Reagan implored Gorbachev to "tear down that wall!"
I might also mention that Putin reserved his most disdain for the Democratic Presidents. The documentary mentions that Joe Biden has no illusions about Putins aspirations as did the two Bushes Father and Son. Edited by Phat, : added video

What conspiracy theory am I espousing? Are you afraid that the dollar might actually get dethroned? Stranger things have happened in wartime. You are the History Buff.
What do you think about BRICS?

Yeah Global Politics is complicated and I'm no political scientist. Lets take Putin. He was a junior KGB agent at the time the Berlin wall fell...in East Germany. The wall came down and communism in the Soviet Union began to fall. Putin was promoted eventually to president by Yeltsin. The old school respected his love for country and power. He did not dissappoint them. Bill Clinton warned Yeltsin about him. Clinton was not naive. So then along comes Bush/Gore and the beginning of a solid divide in US politics. Dubya gets in by a squeak. Then comes 9-11. Meanwhile Mr.Putin is getting rich and powerful, stealing from Russias treasury, according to some.
Dubya was dumber than his Father H.W, but American "Oligarchs" also benefited from 9-11 and grew rich by essentially stealing from America. Putin could get along more with his own kind and that meant Republicans. Biden, in contrast, seems to get along better with his own kind and that loosely means Social Democrats. Now unlike you guys, I assume that both Left and Right "Oligarchs are evil. Biden is in line with Left Wing Oligarchs. The Bushes, Reagan, and Trump are more in bed with Right Wing Oligarchs. Thus, Putin (Right Wing) liked Trump (Right Wing). Biden (Left Wing) invests, along with the Pelosi's in China (Social Democrat/Communist.) Does Europe lean Left or Right? Trump wanted to abolish NATO, while Biden wants it together.Like I said, its all quite complex. And where does Zelensky fit in? He was Time Magazine Man Of The Year and the poster boy for Freedom and Democracy yet Putin hated that he was in power. Thus Don Corleone(Biden) supports Zelensky while the Right Wing Oligarchs and Putin supported Trump. Comments? Edited by Phat, .

Dangerous? Im assuming that you would be a Left Wing Oligarch were you rich.
Lets follow the money to and through Ukraine. (100 Billion Dollars?) I hear so many stories from both political ideologies! It seems that Left Wing money and Right Wing money fight each other. I bet that Putin secured loans for Trump. And I don't know where the Biden (mafioso) get their money, but old Uncle Joe ain't broke. Historically Ukraine was the birthplace of the Czars. White Russians. It just gets more and more complex the farther down this rabbit hole we venture. Edited by Phat, . Edited by Phat, .

Percy writes: How boring of a place EvC would be if we all agreed. Except for a sentence here and there, I could find nothing in your quotes to agree with. Our goals should ideally employ the Forum Guidelines of course. Occasionally we get a bit personal and jab each other. I always thought that the whole idea of a military industrial complex, greedy as it is, was to use our older equipment up in wars, test the new equipment there, and continue funding the corporations that make and build the new stuff. Ukraine gives us an opportunity to use up older stuff (which is still newer than most of what Russia has) help an Ally defend freedom (which is the preferred export to the world rather than this whole silly notion of equality ) and keep the Communists firmly in check. Putin is a Dictator. So is Xi. get over the idea that we can all simply get along. They will wipe out our middle class in order to build up theirs.
They have proven time and time again to care nothing for people who want to get ahead in life...unless one is a member of the communist party in that particular country. One can aspire to be an Oligarch! In summation, our capitalist system is not perfect but is preferable to Both Russia and China's systems. You don't see many people leaving the United States to find a better opportunity in those countries now do you? Of course you cheesy Neo-liberals imagine a world of equity and equality and kum ba yah by the secular humanist campfire. What you fail to realize is that human nature is not simply a willful inner decision to be nice to everyone. There is in fact a spiritual war. Always has been....which partly explains the elusiveness of Mid East Peace.

None of you know my true character. All you know is what I say here. And TBH I DO often get bored and seek to push a few buttons. Theodoric will say that it is Trollish behavior and that I should just crawl back under my rock.
I consider EvC to be my hangout. I've been here 20 years. We have all come a long way together. If you suddenly suggest that this rant is my true character, maybe you had better look in a mirror. After all, I hope none of you think that I seek to be more like you!
