There used to be a Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall a few blocks from my house. Now it's a Sikh temple. (In case you don't know, the worst terrorist attack in the history of Canada was perpetrated by Sikhs.) If a "Christian" cult moved next door to me, I would be just as careful, and worried, because of past history.Being cautious is not being racist. Acting on those feelings is being racist. I like to watch the kids playing cricket in the street in front of the temple. Only brown people and black people play cricket around here. If you don't see the connection, it's because there isn't one. I rode off into the sunset, went all the way around the world and now I\'m back where I started.

The counter-question is: How far do you go to ensure your own safety? Iraq? Should a squadron of B-52s be considered part of the safety equipment for the World trade Center? Is it, in some cases, even safe to ignore these shared attributes? During World War II, we interned second-generation Japanese Canadians for safety's sake. My father was all in favour of doing that. He was a second-generation German Canadian. I rode off into the sunset, went all the way around the world and now I\'m back where I started.

I'm afraid that "I know you are but what am I?" has little validity outside the playground. In this case, it's especially false. A person who doesn't want to be a bigot doesn't go into deny-deny-deny mode when somebody suggests he's a bigot. Instead, he asks where other people see bigotry in him. Usually the 1st person to call someone else a bigot is the real bigot, thanks for proving this to be true yet once again. So let me ask: Which is worse? Being called a bigot or having somebody notice you're a bigot? I rode off into the sunset, went all the way around the world and now I\'m back where I started.

Well, no, not really. That was a lot of words but not much substance. what y'all think I am, is the evolved vernacular version, but what the name callers is the the old REAL definition. Even though I am not nor have been hostile to different races, my desire to avoid places with high concentrations of black people some how makes me a bigot. All I can say is those of you calling me a bigot are really just making up your own definitions. there you go Ringo, I hope that spelled it out for you. I asked which is worse, being a bigot or having people notice that you're a bigot. Let me answer it from my own point of view and we'll see if that clarifies the question for you. I am a bigot. As somebody's message subtitle said a while back, we all are. The thing is, I'm not "okay" with being a bigot. I don't want to be a bigot. If somebody tells me I'm a bigot, that's helpful. It's even more helpful if they tell me specifically how I'm being a bigot. I can't fix my flaws if they aren't diagnosed and humans are notoriously bad at diagnosing our own flaws. So my answer to my question is that it's worse to have a problem than to have somebody point out the problem to you. If you have a low tire and somebody points it out to you, you thank them. You don't rant about name-calling. "Low tire" is not an insult. It's constructive criticism. I rode off into the sunset, went all the way around the world and now I\'m back where I started.

You might get less flak if you called yourself a "recovering racist" instead of vehemently denying that you're a racist. Overcoming a problem is more impressive than never having one in the first place. I see how people are, and that is exactly why I am not racist. It doesn't really matter who you're racist "towards" and I don't think you have to be "raised racist" to be racist. It's a natural human tendency to categorize others by obvious characteristics. Being Italian, I would say I was more racist towards Irish than anything else. What I'm saying is that you'd be better off being aware of your natural tendencies and trying to civilize them instead of just denying them. But "getting along with people" isn't the opposite of racism. The racists' theme song is, "Some of my best friends are black." A racist puts up with people in spite of their colour. His attitude is that there are a few good black people (his friends) but in general, "they" are not to be trusted. But if you grew up in a mixed area (like me) where for the most part everyone got along, your natural tendency would be to get along with people regardless of color. I'm just saying that it's better to be aware of your own attitudes and to look for your own negative attitudes instead of just denying that you have any. I rode off into the sunset, went all the way around the world and now I\'m back where I started.

That's just it though, I don't have any negative attitudes that would define me as a racist, or prejudice. You started the thread to complain about people who perceive you as a racist. I'm suggesting that you should look at the way you express yourself. Maybe then you'll come to understand why some people perceive you as a racist. During every election campaign, I put up a socialist sign on my lawn to freak out the conservative neighbours. I think I'm going to move in next door to you. So my one (known) liberal neighbor, who always calls the cops, decided to put a letter in my mail box about it, and then call the cops on me. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. My point is that your "clarification" ain't workin'.
I understand why some people may want to see me as racists, but anytime something like that happens, I clarify it for them. But then it still continues. quote: My point is that maybe you should stop playing riVeRraT Knows All on a tiny violin and listen to what people have to say. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. I was checking to see if you're really white or just a wannabe. Since you say there are 500 shades of white, I thought you might be a racist with low standards. Ringo writes:

Forgive me. Sometimes I'm too colourful for literal minded people. Ringo writes:
yeah cause that is exactly what I said. 500 shades of white. I was checking to see if you're really white or just a wannabe. Since you say there are 500 shades of white, I thought you might be a racist with low standards. What you said was, "I bet there is well over 500 white ancestries, but a white person is still a white person nomatter if they are from Iceland, or Iran." What I'm saying is that there's too much overlap at the end of your scale - too many "dark white" people overlapping with "light brown" people - for the term "white" to have any meaning. Would you hire a plumber who can't see a problem or one who goes and looks to see if there is a problem?

It isn't about making anybody else happy. It's about self-examination, self-improvement. You're coming across as somebody who thinks he doesn't need any improvement in his attitudes. If you were the one with the problem, no matter what I said or did, would make you happy. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. Sometimes it goes behind the couch and you can't find it.

A blonde chick was walking down the street when she noticed two guys staring up at a flagpole, so she asked them what was up. Blonde chicks generally seem to be dumber to me. One of them said, "Our boss wants us to measure the height of this flagpole but we can't figure out how to reach the top." The blonde chick took a quick glance at the flagpole, then reached into her purse and took out a wrench. She undid one bolt at the bottom and loosened the other, then she carefully lowered the flagpole to the ground. She took a tape measure out of her purse and measured it. "Thirty-two feet." The two guys looked at each other and shook their heads. "Typical dumb blonde. We ask her for the height and she gives us the length." Life is like a Hot Wheels car.
