I think most people would see 'fora' as a misspelling.

I wouldn't any more than I would consider spirilla (sing spirillum), data (sing datum), strata (sing stratum) or phyla (sing phylum) as misspellings, or the plural I don't think anyone would see as a misspelling, bacteria (sing bacterium).

Also, what's wrong with "Peking"? Do English speakers say "Pahree" instead of "Paris"? Do they say "Praha" when they mean Prague? "Myanmar" when they mean Burma? (If you pronounce it quickly and a bit sloppily you can hear where "Burma" came from.)

Well considering drum, bum, tum & vrum are not latin words the plurals would simply add an S. of course it is not only Latin & Greek plurals, ie:

Child Children
Ox Oxen
Goose Geese
Mouse Mice
Moose Moose
Fish Fishes or Fish

This might explain why Chinese people have a near impossible time to pronounce "L"s?

I find the same problem when Koreans try to learn English. The are no "f" or "v" sounds in Korean. France becomes Pranche, Very becomes Belli or Berri. I find many Ameicans trying to speak German have trouble with the Glottal stop in such words as "Bach" or trying to speak French with the nasels such words as "un." It seems that whenever a sound doesn't exist in a particular language, people have trouble with foreign words with such a sound.
