Think long and hard of what that lifestyle entails and you'll realize it's quite the opposite of what you've said.
You two need to grow up. here is somethings you'll need to know.
1) Royalties , lets see whats involved shall we. You'll have to copyright your songs with the Library of Congress. now there are many forms of copyright licenses
compulsory, statutory royalty rate, shared copyrights(also sample compository), and transfer of copyrights
2) Then there is the players
songwriters, publisher, performer, recording company/label, performing rights organization. mechanical rights agencies.. royalties
3) forms of royalties
mechanical rights and royalties so you can reproduce music on a medium,
performing rights and royalties you want your music played on the radio or maybe you tube right,
synchronized rights and royalties maybe theres a movie that wants your song in it these is even needed for aired snippets,
print rights and royalties the songwriter and publisher need their money. You made need to get
foreign rights and royalty for some countries.
The songwriter and publisher split the
mechanical royalties 50/50, they also get the
performance royalties split the same way for songs given air play( radio, restaurants, or bars)
Guess what, as a recording artist you are paid 5-10% of sales. sound good? read on. a 15 dollar cd thats sells one mi. you will get 1,012,500 , so far so good. Now you were given an advance when you signed your
contract that is subtracted from that amount(
recoupment). The
recording cost,
promotional and marketing cost,
tour cost and video music cost. Yeah the record company fronts the money, you will pay it back! It usually works like this
recording cost=300,000,
music video cost 400,000 so you pay 200,000,
tour cost 200,000 you pay 100,000. Thats $800,000 subtract that from 1,012,500=$ 212,500 ,good nah pay you manager his 20%. That leaves $170,000 to be divided among all members. Another fct, you pay the recoprding company back before you see any
money!
This is just the beginning. All your post prove neither of you think it through.
