Conservative Blogs tell a different story
The Local Newspaper was quite discreet initially, and a Fighting Fundamental Forums a blog I found on the net, is much more tactful regarding the story. Note the picture of the church...how conservative Americana it looks.
This has gotta shake the fundies as they read the actual police reports.
What type of message does it send, however? Are leaders any less apt to have secret fetishes than are members of a church?
Personally, Im guessing that the Reverend had some unresolved issues in his past and was using the time that his wife was away to "play" and act out what must have been a traumatic experience of his youth.

Re: Conservative Blogs tell a different story
Its not normal to want to indulge in anal sex. The Reverend was probably raped as a youngster...probably by a man.
I agree with Jar in that he repressed his sexuality...yet maintain that he was likely molested as a youth in order to even develop such weird fetishes.

What constitutes normal
sidelined writes:
But only normal by the standards you agree with Phat. This does not however define what constitutes normal unless you wish to impose your version of it upon others.
I'm not out to attempt to force any standard on others. I am simply voicing a personal opinion.
  • If the Reverends sexual habits were so normal, why was his wife not also involved?
  • Anyone who needs to use an elaborate plethora of "gadgets" to get off has been numbed, in my opinion.
I use common sense in making my judgments. I certainly don't attempt to speak for everyone nor to suggest legislation of morality.
I agree that the conservative church represses a lot of human behavior that many consider normal, they being of a freethinking relativistic mindset.
It is my opinion, however, that there are limits. What these limits are, I cannot say. Perhaps you all believe that limits are the responsibility of the individual.
I can agree with that as well.

No...I am just voicing my opinion, as you are. There is not only one way to look at things.
Since I don't lump you together with any given group.. such as "godless liberals" or "evil atheists" why must you lump me together with the "repressed fundies"?
Its just my opinion that the man must have had some hangups. Is it so wrong to assume that people can and do have baggage from their past that influences their present behavior?

If we lived in a society that didn't feel the need to condemn other people's kinks as pathological or shameful, people like this man would have been able to enjoy himself in a safe, informed manner and most likely never got hurt.
Yes, but if we lived in a society where everyones personal business was up to them alone, we would be unable to determine any moral guidelines for our kids to follow...telling them that their conscience should be their guide.
As a result, we would be raising up and throwing off the shackles of obedience...instead following our wanton desires.

Let's just walk through the implications of your idea.
Gay men are around 5% of the population.
That means 5% of the (supposedly) straight fathers/uncles/what-have-you in this country raped children.
Does that sound plausible to you?
    Phat writes:
Yes. Go to any support group and hear the confessions pour forth. Abuse is at least 5% if not more of the population. We all have some skeletons from our past. Its not unusual.
And what about our poor, bereft lesbians?
    No anal rape for them.
What turned them to the dark side?
Bad experiences with males and/or Fathers?
I can accept that homosexual inclinations are not only caused by abuse. I would argue, however, that homosexual behavior is a choice irregardless of inclinations. IMB, God made some of us attracted to our own genders for much deeper reasons than mere sexplay.

Maybe I'm not so strange after all
    bluegenes writes:
I think you'd be surprised, Phat, if you took a poll of EvC members at how many of both sexes have enjoyed anal sex.
    Phat writes:
I think I'd rather not know...
I was first introduced to it when I was twenty, back in the dark ages, by a German girlfriend who was a few years older, and who particularly liked it, along with many other interesting things.
    Phat writes:
That settles it! I have had a repressed life! How long did you know this girl, though?
If two people are enjoying something, it's fine.
    Phat writes:
Are you suggesting that there is no limit as to what two people should be allowed to do, provided it hurts nobody else?
Perhaps you should suggest an experiment to your other half.
Both of my halves are currently in agreement! I am firmly in control of the starship!
