There are some shorthands that only apply to boards like this: ToE = Theory of Evolution Evo = evolutionist Creo = creationist 2LoT = Second Law of Thermodynamics YEC and OEC as previously mentioned All the ID (Intelligent Design) ones IC - irreducible complexity
SI - specific information and the like. Personally I don't have a problem with using shorthand in a long post with many repetitions of it, as long as it is defined or noted early on what the shorthand relates to. I also like to go to the other extreme sometimes: creatortionista = a creationist who intentionally distorts and twists information.

Post Script: I can see where the use of shorthand could be viewed as pretentious; I am guilty of using "ABE". I will do so no more. No, " Post Script" is pretentious ... (are there really people that don't know what "ps" means?) If you ever replied to someone who has then edited their post to change what you replied to, you will find a certain confusion ensues. Of course you get the same kind of confusion when someone's screen-name (SN?) changes, so you are addressing "relative" but the post is by "simple" ...

I have read somewhere that it is a mark of a poor writer when one has to use smileys to convey humor. And I always thought it was punishing phrasing. Until I find a way to convey facial expressions in a convenient enough way that it doesn't detract from the discussions ... (the difficulty is when you try to use irony or sarcasm and the recepient just doesn't get it ... such as pretending to be overly pedantic)
The "Post Script" was meant to be humorous. See the problem? Of course I think there are people who "know" what "ps" means but not what "post script" means ... know what I mean?
