Why not? Why are you so determined to be a heartless (and brainless) bastard?
Critical thinking and agnosticism certainly wouldn't help change me... that's for sure. Phat writes:
We're going to lose everybody sooner or later, from causes natural or otherwise. Prayer ain't gonna change that. We all would do well to pray that jar is ok. We have lost enough people through natural causes around here."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

So are bank robbers' idea concerning return on investment.
Conservatives' ideas concerning return on investment are individual and concrete. Phat writes:
The government is us (or should be). Why would we be afraid of us?
But they are unafraid to let the government tax and handle the social problems. Phat writes:
Homelessness is not a criminal activity. For a homeless situation, we have to trust that decriminalizing the activity, (even if it affects private business) and providing money and social programs is the answer."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

Well, it's caused by YOUR attitude. You just want to grab all you can and look down on people who can't grab as much as you. You're EXACTLY what Jesus preached against.
Poverty is an attitude. Phat writes:
Stop being so stupid. YOU GUYS, who claim to believe in Jesus but refuse to do what He said, have failed to take care of the poor. That was YOUR job, not society's as a whole. You were supposed to be an example to society as a whole - but instead, you try to make the problem worse.
LET THE PEOPLE WHO WANT IT FIXED (THROUGH MONEY) FIX IT VOLUNTARILY AND WILLINGLY. Phat writes:
Stop being so stupid. THINK, for once. Why would anybody who doesn't believe in Jesus do what He said? THINK before you post that stupid lie again.
YOU ADVOCATE THE Christians giving it all up and that the rule does not apply to others Phat writes:
It's not a double standard. It's a single standard set by Jesus for those who want to follow Him. You not only fail to meet the standard but you denigrate Jesus for setting it. If there was a Hell, you would certainly be at the front of the line. This is ringos double standard."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

Phat writes:
Why do you say, "No," and then repeat exactly what I said?
No, I want the right to grab "as much as I can"... Phat writes:
Stop. Nobody here is talking about any government. ... rather than having an authoritarian government try and legislate what's best for me. But yes, you do seem to need somebody to do what's best for you, since you're so bad at doing it yourself.
Phat writes:
Gas should be more expensive, not less, so people use less of it.
I want them to keep their hands off of the projects that make oil and gas cheaper for all of us... Phat writes:
Sez Jesus.
ringo writes:
Sez you. YOU GUYS, who claim to believe in Jesus but refuse to do what He said, have failed to take care of the poor. Phat writes:
When did I ever recommend that? I just pointed out that Jesus REQUIRES it of YOU (Christians), not all of us.
The same guy who recommended that ALL of us follow the message rather than the messenger. Phat writes:
Of course it is. And yet you mock me for giving away spare change.
It's your job too, Pal. Phat writes:
How many times do I have to tell you that it isn't about government at all? If society FAILS to take care of it's own, then it's the government's responsibility to take care of them. You right-wingnuts think the government's only responsibility is to protect you from black people, Mexicans and Grenada.
The Double Standard, however, is that you want all of us to adapt to your government model. Phat writes:
I have pointed out many times what's wrong with your model. And you have demonstrated many times that you have no clue what my model is.
I can simply tell you that your model may not be MY model. Phat writes:
You sound like Putin "freeing" Ukraine from the Nazis.
And that's freedom. Not authoritarianism disguised as altruism. Phat writes:
Duh. They're the government. You get to try to vote them out but you don't get to pick and choose what laws to obey. Render unto Caesar.
Why would (or should) anyone who questions the integrity of AOC, Kamela, and doddering old Uncle Joe be forced to do what they try and say? Phat writes:
And yet He gave a mandate. (See Ananias and Sapphira.) The Lord loves a cheerful giver, not a mandate that all must follow."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

You still don't get it. It would be insulting, by the way, to be a "Christian beggar" and be forced to rely on unbelievers to get fed. Unbelievers have nothing to do with it. Jesus' point was to trust God to take care of you. The early Church relied on each other not on outsiders."Let me win. I don't live in "the hood" but I can see the hood from my window. We have people every day scavenging the recycling bins and garbage bins for cans, bottles and other useful items. (The amount of good stuff that people throw away is horrifying.) My workplace, a grocery store, is directly one block off of the Colfax corridor. I have mentioned the place I used to work that is reducing security to save money. A block away, there is a branch of my bank where I used to stop at the ATM on my way home (around a quarter to midnight). One night there was a guy sleeping in the lobby (which is open 24/7). I thought twice about walking past him with a fistful of cash but I didn't assume he would rob me if he woke up.
Phat writes:
Don't try to blunt my argument. I have never suggested that only "some" of them obeyed. I have pointed out that the ones who didn't obey were killed. That seems like a pretty direct response from God.
Ringos argument that *some* of the early church were obedient to give all that they had... Phat writes:
Isn't Jesus supposed to be the same yesterday, today and forever? (Hebrews 13:8)
... was in a different time and context... Phat writes:
We're not talking about people who "claim" to be Christian. We're talking about the people who are Christian. The ones who parrot, "Lord! Lord!" are already condemned. ... ...it would literally wreck the economy if all who claimed to be Christian did it now ..."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

How many of your paying customers are on drugs (bearing in mind that cannabis is legal in Colorado)?
Most of the thieves *ARE* on drugs...we can see them tweaking as they leave, and some go into our restrooms to shoot up. Phat writes:
You have a low enough opinion of them to single them out.
That does NOT mean that I hate them. Phat writes:
My position is that it isn't worthwhile taxing the rich. They'll spend a million to avoid paying a million. Nobody benefits but the lawyers. My only gripe is with a system that would raise taxes on the middle working class in order to help the lower class...while ignoring the theft at the top."Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

Our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, loves to apologize - and not just when he gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He apologizes for racism, sexism, etc. I'm surprised he doesn't apologize for the weather. But one borrowed word that the Germans really love is "sorry". All the German equivalents ("Verscheidung", "Entschuldigung") imply that the person saying it is somehow admitting to some kind of fault or guilt on their own part. "Sorry" doesn't do that. Which is why the Germans love it so much. Now you can try to emphasize with the customer without admitting to somehow being at fault for their dilemma. But, as an older indigenous lady said, "If you step on my foot, I appreciate you saying you're sorry but you also have to get off my foot.""Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -- motto of the Special Olympians

Hmm.... If you were planning bus lines, wouldn't you want them to cover ALL of the city?
In the Denver Metro area, the Safeways(and grocery stores in general) who are on or near major bus lines ... Phat writes:
IF that was true (which seems unlikely, considering the source is you), it would suggest that shoplifters are poor (which doesn'r come as a big surprise).
... are by far the hardest hit by shoplifters, , the majority of whom are on foot... Phat writes:
If shoplifting is the worst organized crime you have, my heart doesn't bleed for you.
... a smaller minority are driving nicer cars than you or I own! The latter are likely organized crime. Phat writes:
As I have pointed out before, the drug store where I used to work has REDUCED its anti-shoplifting measures, apparently because fixating on shoplifters is counter-productive.

Thats not what we observe nor what our security sees. But it is not a crisis as they made it out to be. Phat writes:
Sure it does. We have had a lot of trouble around here with retail stores exiting "undesirable" indigenous people. (Some of them may even have come on the bus, horror of horrors!) A company needs no excuse to exit undesireable unprofitable areas. Of course, you can't do that any more (which people like you can not be made to understand). The store owners want to masquerade as human beings, so they want a good image for their stores.Come all of you cowboys all over this land, I'll teach you the law of the Ranger's Command: To hold a six shooter, and never to run As long as there's bullets in both of your guns. -- Woody Guthrie

So now liberals are ANTI-authoritarian? When did you change your mind? ... their sensationalist claims themselves generated a backlash from people (such as many liberals) who are sensitive to the issue and defensive, largely due to the fact that they are anti-authoritarian and pro BLM and other marginalized minority causes.Come all of you cowboys all over this land, I'll teach you the law of the Ranger's Command: To hold a six shooter, and never to run As long as there's bullets in both of your guns. -- Woody Guthrie

You have been saying for ages that liberals are authoritarian and now you say it is a FACT that they are NOT authoritarian Message 449. It doesn't matter how many ways authoritarianism cuts, you're contradicting yourself.
Authoritarianism cuts both ways. Phat writes:
The people give their consent by voting the liberals in. If they didn't have the people's consent, they couldn't DO anything in ANYBODY's best interest.
The difference is that Liberals claim that they are acting in the best interests of *all* of the people regardless of the peoples consent. Phat writes:
Because they're NOT authoritarian. Se above. They deny being authoritarian. For God's sake, learn what authoritarian means.Come all of you cowboys all over this land, I'll teach you the law of the Ranger's Command: To hold a six shooter, and never to run As long as there's bullets in both of your guns. -- Woody Guthrie

As I have said twice before, the drugstore where I used to work REDUCED their anti-shoplifting measures. I'll repeat that, since you didn't seem to notice it before: They REDUCED their anti-shoplifting measures. Apparently, what they lost to shoplifting wasn't worth the expense of extra security measures AND the expense of backlash from false accusations, etc. (Imagine the uproar if a privileged white person was falsely accused.) You seem to advocate looking the other way and letting these people get something for nothing at the expense of the rest of us. So it's the merchants, not me. Public relations is worth a lot.
