Author | Topic: Is it right to preach to people? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Outside my school library there is always a group of preachers screaming about how all us college students are sinners and how he knows all the right answers. When faith is trotted as certitude, it begins to be more than annoying. Aren't they on private property or something? If it was my college, I'd hose 'em down with beer.

Thinking back to my college days...we'd never waste good beer like that. Well, I didn't say good beer, now did I? I was thinking a keg of Coors, that is to say, mineral water.

Not impudent at all Russ. If posters can help police the threads they are involved in, it makes the moderator's job easier.

I had mentioned to the Zelote that I had opened another thread, but he chose to keep the conversation here.
Anyway, I have had my wee rant, which ought to keep me going for a while. Brian. To all the xians out there I really do not believe that all xians are liars, I was just having some fun with the Zealot.

If you ever go to the University of Pittsburgh, you'll see it's just a bunch of random buildings scattered throughout Oakland. So sadly it wasn't private property.

You think Coors is bad? Have you ever tried American Beer? Coors is American beer. (Unless you're referring to some kind of "American-brand Beer" that I haven't heard of.) American beer isn't universally crappy, you know. It's not like there's some magic radiation in Ireland or Germany that makes the beer better. The Big Beers are largely watered down in order to appeal to as many tastes as possible, but your local breweries often have all the character that the bigger beers lack. There's a brewery near my college called Augustus Schell - great beer.

Coors IS american beer! And the only samples I've had 'tasted' (if that is an applicable word) like it.

In an effort to keep this thread on topic, I will now "preach" the names of American microbreweriess that have impressed the hell out of me, as well as lending themselves to many hours of... uhhh, highly spiritual enjoyment. Pike Brewery in Seattle, Henry Weinhardt (Portland, OR, I believe... somewhere up there), the makers of Alaskan Amber(Anchorage?), Anchor Brewery(San Fran) and Red Hook Brewery(?). I was brought up well in my beer-drinking ways by seasoned veterans of many Alaskan winters, hard people who insisted on high-quality brews and would not tolerate macrobrewed piss-water.
(If you're wondering why I'm over-dramatizing this, it's because I'm preaching)

That is my door and they need my permission to go knocking on it or have some really good reason for doing so...and no, preaching is not a really good reason. But idiots screaming in the public square is their right. Public areas are where people get to say what they want. Now, to crash's question about private property, that depends upon the institution. My undergrad was a private college so they would be quickly escorted out, but my graduate university was a public college and I routinely had fun debating the preacher and showing him that I knew the Bible better than he did. ------------------Rrhain WWJD?
