If a person asks me, "do you think I am going to hell?", the first thing that goes through my head as a Christian is, "huh?"
You see, I don't actually believe or have a preliminary judgement that a specific person is going to hell. My official answer is that I do not know. The fringe-lunatics that go around telling people they are going to hell, having signs that say, "fa*s burn in hell", at peoples funerals. The truth is, I would rather have the nice none-believer go to heaven than an evil Christian go to heaven. I simply don't think God is stupid in this way! Because of the fringe lunatics, I think some atheists believe that Christians have a grim desire to see them in hell. So this question is actually a concern to me because it supposes that I have established a belief that a particular person is going to hell. That "belief" in itself, is a dangerous belief. I do not actually go around establishing thoughts such as, "oh he is atheist he must be going to hell". That would be - well, a horrible thing. We are taught not to judge others. Now in the scriptures, it appears CLEAR where salvation comes from, (Jesus Christ) but at no time does it say that we have a clear dichotomy. Sure - there are the "clearly" lost people, who we can't see going to heaven such as Hitlers or whatever, but to put me infront of a lovely person, who is an atheist, and expect me to even want to believe they are going to hell - this is the hardest thing for my belief system. Sure - I will always act with caution - that's why we share the Gospel, incase somebody is lost and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it, but I think that sometimes this gives the impression that Christians would think you are going to hell, in a judgemental way. Our position is more adequately presented in this way; "We are told, by God, all have sin, and there is a way back to God, a way out of punishment for that sin, therefore we want everyone to take that way out. Everyone."
Romans 3:22-24 (New International Version) 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. But to believe this would give us a mandate to individually pick on certain groups of people is just a horrible misunderstanding of scripture. That's the thing - if these fringe lunatics thrive and are happy that they believe gay people are going to hell, if anything, doesn't that show that they don't have the love of God? For how could anyone want somebody to go to hell? That is not a normal way to think, it is a sick way to think, to derive pleasure from this So if, for example, someone pushes me for an answer, and re-phrases it, and says, "okay - do you believe atheists are going to hell?", if you have to answer then I would say, "I hope not", but if they insist on a yes or no answer, do I qualify to have that belief either way? Do I believe they are certainly going to hell? I am not certain - no. Not that I am giving you a sugar-coated Gospel, but God says He will judge not by what He hears or sees, (like humans do), but with righteousness. Therefore I trust in God - and hope and pray for Him to be merciful. I think this is a major problem for a genuine Christian because you yourself know you are not a fringe lunatic, or that you have these beliefs towards people and yet there is the common belief that because of what the bible says, then you must believe that atheists are certainly going to hell. Does God even term "atheism", as we do? (I type this post because of the Theroux-program I saw on the BBC, and ofcourse, I was mortified by the fringe-loons, and felt so sorry for their kids that are guaranteed to be brain-washed in the same way.) mike the wiz writes: Atheist do not acknowlege that a Judeo Christian God exist. A primary tenant of Christian beliefs is that in order to "acsend to the Father" one must believe that Jesus Christ is God, and that he was crucified for the forgiveness of our sins. So the answer is yes that person is going to H. E. (double hockey sticks. Why do you think missionaries are all over the world trying to save the souls of all those heathens? How is anyone to know who is saved and who is not, or whether such categories even exist?

Because what would be the point of making all those Sunday masses if Joe Schmo who is sleeping in gets to go to heaven? No way man, there has got to be retribution and reward or the whole thing falls like a stack of cards.

It's doubtful there will be very many in hell other than good Biblical Christians. Edited by jar, : add a " " Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Hi Mike,
mike writes: So if, for example, someone pushes me for an answer, and re-phrases it, and says, "okay - do you believe atheists are going to hell?", Every person who is buried goes to Hell, because Hell is the grave. Now the lake of fire that was prepared for the Devil and his angels are a different story. That is the place a person needs to avoid. For the last 60 years I have been telling people Jesus loved them so much He gave up His place in Heaven and came to Earth and lived in a human body and was crucified for the sins of the kosmos. I love to share a scripture with people who will allow me to share. I will share it here.
John writes: 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This last verse tells us the only thing that will put a person in the lake of fire. If a person lives and dies and never believes on the only begotten Son of God he/she will spend eternity in the lake of fire with the Devil and his angels. The good news is no one has to do that as Christ paid for a free full pardon for everyone, you just have to accept it. God Bless, "John 5:39 (KJS) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

This has always rather bugged me.
You can be a serial child rapist and murderer, you can be Hitler, literally, and if you "believe on Jesus Christ" you get into heaven. And Ghandi burns, because he wasn't a Christian. It amuses me when Christians say that "without God, there would be total anarchy, murder, rape, theft, the works." Then they create a "salvation by faith" doctrine that means it literally does not matter one bit what one does on Earth - all you have to do is believe the right thing, and you get heaven regardless of any other crimes, and if you don;t, you get to burn regardless of any good you do.

quote:The problem is that most people don't know what the Bible actually says. Example: God didn't say that all have sinned. That was Paul. The God of the Bible seems to like those who are righteous.
Matt 25:46
"These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

No way man, there has got to be retribution and reward or the whole thing falls like a stack of cards. Indeed; the pronouncements of who's saved are little more than a marketing gimmick. If there is such a thing as god, The way the god of the bible is totally screwed in the head if you read the bible or look at reality you can see it clearly. Makes me think that he only lets atheists in heaven and when a believer comes to the gates of heaven he laughs as he dips him in molten lava then eats him. <--- house.

Hi Rahvin,
Rahvin writes: You can be a serial child rapist and murderer, you can be Hitler, literally, and if you "believe on Jesus Christ" you get into heaven. I have never met a person that is following Jesus who would do any of those things. Jesus didn't do any of them. A christian is a person living a life like Christ lived. Anybody that claims to be a christian and is not living a life like Christ did is a liar and the truth is not in him/her. 1 John 2.4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. Jesus gave two commandments the first was to love the Lord God with your entire being and the second was to love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. He also said take up your cross and follow me. So your conclusions are flawed. God Bless, "John 5:39 (KJS) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

Which gets us back to the all have sinned....forgiven through Divine Grace argument. Perhaps we can reword it into Anybody that claims to be a Christian and is not trying their best to live a life like Christ did is not worthy. Makes me wonder about myself sometimes....

then all christians are liars. I wouldn't say 'all', but a great majority certainly are, and happily so, to boot. Check out No webpage found at provided URL: Apollo's Temple! Ignorance is temporary; you should be able to overcome it. - nwr
