I heard the Savage show on autism live. Several times during the show he stated that there were legitimate autism cases but too often school officials who do not have medical credentials are diagnosing troubled children as autistic and committing them to drug and social services programs that are not in the best interest of the children and their families.
My wife works in school providing therapy for autistic children. I don't know how it is in other states but in NM you have to be certified with ASD before you can receive any state services.
The biggest problem that the therapists have are getting the kids who need treatment through all the red tape so that they can start getting services and stop floundering in school. Autism is not being diagnosed willy nilly and often children who are autistic are diagnosed too late to allow therapy to be most effective.
Everything that Michael Savage said was almost word for word the opposite of reality.
Twice during two different shows there were case workers who called into the show and wholeheartedly confirmed Savage's concerns.
Case workers are not therapists. They do not make the determination if a child is autistic. A case manager is supposed to handle the best interests of a child and I would question both the intelligence and ethics of anyone claiming to be a case manager who would expose themselves to Michael Savage.
