So, how would you sum up today's zeitgeist? Fear of conspiracies (e.g. terrorism)? Gullibility to accept conspiracy theories?

Spektical writes:
If the world population is comprised strictly of the following groups of people:
1. Christians or theists who have believed in God or a god for their entire lives.
2. People who are superficial and are constantly consumed with their own image and really could care less whether there is a god or not.
3. Self-thinkers or skeptics who are atheists and constantly question things or trust in the scientific approach to the unknown.
4. People who have some kind of emotional or traumatic psychological issues in their lives and have some kind of addiction that alleviates the pains associated with these issues.
There is overlap between all of those groups. None of them "holds the highest percentage of the population" and none of them has a group-think that can be summed up in one post or one thread.
How do you think each group would react to watching Zeitgeist?
Some people would have a knee-jerk rejection (see Nemesis_Juggernaut). Some would swallow the hook, line or sinker, but not necessarily all three. Most would ignore it or just laugh.

Same with Ralph Kramden and Fred Flintstone.

... how do you account for Thomas' skepticism even after seeing Jesus raise a little girl from the dead?
The reason the story is recorded at all is to show that Jesus did approve of skepticism. Those who believe without seeing any evidence are blessed. Those who do see evidence are allowed to examine it.
If I see a man raise someone from the dead as well as perform other countless miracles, I would surely be satisfied that he was the son of God.
Then you're very gullible. You'd be crazy/insane/goldfish-brained if you didn't ask Penn and Teller what was behind the curtain.

I still see the whole Thomas story as religious marketing.
Sure. That's why the skepticism is downplayed. The authors wanted their audience to have faith. But why would they put in a story about skepticism at all if it wasn't acceptable?
... Thomas lived with Jesus, meaning they were for the most part together. There would be no reason for Thomas to believe that Jesus was a traveling magician that employed the people of Judea to fake illness and even death.
All the more reason for Thomas to doubt if he had seen iffy "miracles" before.
Its reasonable to point out that Thomas' initial skepticism was justified...
There was only "initial skepticism". After he saw the evidence, Thomas believed.
... but to continue to have skepticism regarding a man you've traveled with and witnessed miracles through implies 2 things; Thomas was crazy, or Thomas was just an ICON or tool for religious marketing.
If Thomas had still been skeptical, you're still missing a third, more obvious, possibility - that Jesus was, in fact, a faker.

One thing that amazes me about the "stories" is the fact that they speak to humanity.
War and Peace speaks to humanity. Harry Potter speaks to humanity. The Honeymooners speaks to humanity. Hockey Night in Canada speaks to humanity.
Humanity seems to have an almost infinite capacity to be spoken to.

I'm not comparing...
"Sillier" is a comparison. "Ten times siller" and "100 times sillier" are comparisons.
... if you read my previous posts you would know I was talking about the progression of myth.
If you're going to talk about "progrssion of myth", you should be able to do it without descending into silliness.

but why not ?
The topic is about a silly movie about silly mythologies. If we dig any deeper into the silliness of silliness, we'll come out the other side.
The animal sacrifices in the Old Testament were a sensible way to provide food for the priests. They weren't silly (though the necessity of the priests is a little harder to explain).
The common interpretaion of the New Testament that God sacrificed Himself to pay Himself a debt that He claimed we owed Him - that's waaaay beyond silly, beyond idiotic, beyond insane.
