Author | Topic: Is Hovind going to hell? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

quote: If you think he's lying about something then call him up and tell him. 850-479-3466 (8-4 Mon-Fri CST) Whether or not you go to hell is based upon whether or not you accept Jesus anyways.

quote: Oh, but getting on the internet and complaining about it is a good way to spend your time?

2)How convenient then tell me what if any is the relevance of the ten comandments if everyone can do as they like and play the I believe so i get into heaven card? Why bother with a system of moral standards if you can go to heaven after breaking them providing you believe....
You don't think God would give us a system of moral standards to help us live a good life while on earth?

quote: Oh he defiantly cares if we follow them. Otherwise they would be called "10 recommendations" not "10 commandments" Accepting Jesus determines ultimately whether or not you go to heaven or hell. Once you accept Jesus you become in God's family. Any sin you do after that point is a family issue. The less sins you commit the greater the reward in heaven.

If the only criteria for entry to heaven is belief in God then he obviously doesn’t care if we live a good life or not....
Yeah, he cares. He wants us to live a good life.

quote: No sir, I added the important word "otherwise" in there. Reread my post please.

Also, if I accept Jesus, but make a go of commiting sins as much as possible, at what point do I get NO reward in heaven, but still go there.
I'd have to say you didn't really accept Jesus it you are determined to purposely commit every sin.

That's not my interpretation, I can sin, & go to heaven.

Yup, that's true. Even though you sin you can still go to heaven through Jesus.

So are the commandments just that, or recommendations, because they have no relevance as to whether I go to heaven. They're not very "commanding" if I go to heaven anyway.
They are commandments for how God wants us to live on earth. I believe that if you follow them you're life will be better.

All I have to do is sin as much as I like, & accept Jesus. Whether you think I have accepted Jesus or not is subjective on your part. I may well accept him right at the end in the last breath of life I have. Get out of jail free.
Well, the Bible says God is all forgiving. So I suppose you are right to a certain degree. But sounds kinda risky to wait your whole life because you never know when you'll die.

I would have to say the punishments for not obeying the commandments would be received in life.

Asking repentance, and having faith in that repentance, are necessary but you also have to stop sinning.

The Bible says it's not possible to stop sinning.

If Hovind continues his lies until he dies he will probably go to Hell no matter how strongly he believes in God or accepts Jesus. He might get treated better than a constant liar who is an atheist, but I doubt it.
I suppose I should ask, what did he lie about?

quote: Good point, Cobra. Before Jesus man had to make other forms of sacrifice to pay for his sins. Now we need only accept Christ who sacrificed himself.

quote: Oh they do hold revelence. Here are some reasons why I feel it's important to have the 10 commandments in the Bible. 1) They are still meaningful towards helping us lead a good life now. 2) It's important to know the history of man's relationship with God. 3) It helps us appreciate the fact that we now have Jesus to pay for our sins.

That was explained to me as being because, if the Jews couldn't hold themselves to all their laws, Gentiles shouldn't be asked to either.
Christianity is a more gregarious faith than Judaism and it is open to anyone (or really liberal Judaism for everyone + Messiah). Judaism, traditionally, is one based on family lineages and is not as gregarious. Sadly, this has caused them much hardship over the years. Why do Orthodox Jews still keep to their strict laws? Well remember, they aren't Christians and so they don't believe in the Christian covenant with God established through the death of Christ.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think jews stick to the commandments of the old testament any longer. Specifically, animal sacrifices to pay for sins. It makes me wonder how they expect to be forgiven?

The above is not supported in scripture -
I have read the entire Bible 2 times so far. That is the overall impression I get from reading scripture. I think I can support that with a little research and verse quotations. Do you think you can support against it in the same manner?

and in another post you stated that the bible says it is not possible to stop sinning - conveniently ignoring the fact that Jesus said that with God, ALL things are possible.
Yes, Jesus is God. With accepting Jesus you can be forgiven. In otherwords man can not stop sinning, that is impossible. But by accepting Jesus you can have your sins cleaned because with God all things are possible. "For ALL have Sinned and fall short of the Glory of God."Romans 3:23 "The wages of Sin is Death"Romans 6:23 "For there are none who are righteous.. no, not one"Romans 3:10 "I will expose your righteousness and your works, and they will not benefit you"Isaiah 57:12 "For it is by Grace that you have been Saved, through Faith - and Not from yourselves. It is a gift from God - Not earned by works, so that no one can boast"Ephesians 2:8-9 "When we confess our sins...God is Faithful and Just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us of ALL unrighteousness"1 John 1:9
