When Jar closed the thread he said if anyone wants to go ahead and try to recruit people, go ahead. If you want to do the background work for EvC Forum to host a debate between Dembski and Dawkins, go right ahead. That's what the Great Debate forum is for.
Please be clear that you don't represent EvC Forum, that you're just proposing it as a neutral and visible venue.

I think it would be a signficicant challenge for anyone to convince Dembski or Dawkins to debate JAD, but you're free to pursue this. If you're successful we'll make whatever reasonable accomodations prove necessary.

Jazzns writes: I am not asking admins to get into a public debate. I am asking another admin to clarify and support YOUR ruling of what I am and am not allowed to say on this forum about fundamentalism. Right now you are the lone authority coming down on me and I feel that it is NOT impartial. No moderator is impartial, every moderator runs their own show, and under most circumstances it isn't customary for moderators to seek consensus. Here's my own opinion. Consider an equivalent statement from the other side, maybe something like this:
"Most evos won't admit that science is a fraud. Some things like evolution are just made up by scientists so that they can convince people to ignore the word of God. Scientists have no integrity because their goal isn't knowledge but deception. Unwilling to admit that there are things science can't study, they engage in an unethical, immoral and totally depraved campaign of deceit and deception whose only goal is to discredit Christianity. They deny God, but judgment day awaits them." To me this represents valid opinion, and I think it's okay. Here's an example of the same thing, but more personal and in my opinion not okay:
"You just won't admit that science is a fraud. You people just make up things like evolution so you can convince people to ignore the word of God. You have no integrity because your goal isn't knowledge but deception. Unwilling to admit that there are things science can't study, you engage in an unethical, immoral and totally depraved campaign of deceit and deception whose only goal is to discredit Christianity. You deny God, but judgment day awaits you." I think the above is over the top and that an admin should bring it to the author's attention. And then there's a gray area, where something like the above is phrased non-specifically using non-personal language, but there is something in the context or presentation that makes it seem personal nonetheless. Different people, including moderators, will react differently. Some people let things roll off them, others can find offense in even the most innocuous statement. When someone has what you feel is an unwarranted reaction to something you wrote, unless you've suffered grievously as a result, the most reasonable reaction is, "Oh, well, I guess that's just the way he sees it."

You didn't provide a link.
There is no thread in which jar has posted recently that has somewhere around 179 messages. There is no thread in which jar has posted recently that is closed. Is this an old thread? {Note - I think the "179" was a typo, and should have been "279". Anyway, the topic was reopend. - AM} Edited by Adminnemooseus, : See above

I'm thinking of modifying the way suspensions work. The change would be that the clock wouldn't start ticking until the next time the suspendee accesses the site.

I could not myself in good conscience recommend restoring Guido's privileges, and EvC Forum is not a department of New Jersey Social Services, which is really what needs to get involved.
Send him email, he also uses Yahoo Messenger.

Then the thread should be released to the [forum=-34] forum.

Hi Faith,
Let me address your concerns and put your mind at rest.
Faith writes: The cause turns out to be that Faith is suspended for answering all the objections to my contention that the facts are hard to come by. Seems to me the whole lot of you should be suspended if I am. My actions were in this order:

The primary qualification for residence in Showcase is showing persistent and extreme resistance to moderation. That's why there's largely no moderation in the forum.

To everyone discussing JAD and his recent PEH thread,
I'm replying to nwr because his message is the last in the chain. As nwr notes, this discussion doesn't seem to be focusing on a moderation issue. The proper place to discuss PEH is in JAD's thread. That thread has reached the 300 message limit and is now closed. If someone would like to pick up the PEH discussion or some related aspect of it, then propose a new thread in PAF and the moderator team will promote it as quickly as is practical. Please specify whether you would like JAD included in the discussion so that in that case we may place the thread in the Showcase forum.

You might try giving my Message 150 from a recent thread a read. It explains that even legitimate complaints can be difficult to figure out.

Hi Ray,
Those showcased in the Showcase forum are intended to have privileges in these forums:
Showcase The Book Nook Links and Information Practice Makes Perfect Suggestions and Questions Announcements Post of the Month Proposed New Topics In The News That you had privileges for Coffee House was inadvertent, and I fixed this a few days ago. I apologize to you for this mistake that led you to believe you were entitled to Coffee House access.

In reply to Faith, SuperNintendo Chalmers writes: If you want to point out that something violates rule 10 fine. But keep you opinions about my behavior to yourself. As a practical matter I have to point out that you can't pick and choose which moderators you will listen to. My suggestion is to discuss any issues you have in this thread. Another perspective to consider is the advantages of having someone interpreting rule 10 who is so intimately familiar with all its fine nuances.
