sort of a branch-off from The DI loses one.
Dr. Robert Davidson of UW recently asked for his name to be taken of DI's famous "400 Scientists" roster of people who disagreed with or questioned evolution. he clearly indicated that he had the wrong impression of what the organization was about. so we sort of began questioning how many people on the roster, exactly, felt the same way. is DI misleading people? well, the surest way to find out is to ASK THEM. this thread, then, is to collect the email addresses of each and every one of the people on the list, if possible. nearest i can tell, this is the most recent list. please note, i'm putting this thread here ONLY for information purposes: the collection of email addresses. for debate of the issue, please take it to the other thread. for now, we're just collecting addresses. then, if we're all agreed here, we should draft some kind of standardized questionaire, and email. please leave out phone numbers, as we don't want a million people to bother these people over the phone. email is pretty innocuous. i'd suggest finding campus directories. i'll start, here's the one i posted in the other thread.

i think they want to make this hard. a little later tonight, i'll type out a master list in text format, so that we can post it here and append emails.

i was suprised at how unavailable this list is.

just plain text would be great. we just need a list of names and universities that we can add email addresses to.

ok, i say we take cracks at this based on institution, since the campus directories are the best way to go.
(emails removed) Paul S. Darby: (not found) it seems that the people who say "ph.d. (institution)" is just where they got that degree -- they're not on staff there. this will make them much harder to find. i'll keep working on these four for now, and edit when i've got them. charles, would you like to keep the master list? Ronald S. Carson: (not found) i'm starting to see a pattern here -- most of these people don't seem to be scientists working at major institutions. they just seem to be phd grads. this is looking fishier by the second. This message has been edited by arachnophilia, 08-28-2005 04:51 PM

awesome, thanks.
many seem to be grad students. yeah. this is gonna be a problem. how do we find these people? wayback machine archive of student directories? maybe we can find alumni directories? (i found schraf that way once) it's just plain suspicious that a lot of these people don't seem to be working in the academic field... maybe we can include that as part of the questionaire, and sort responses by profession.

yes, i think so to.
especially when billed as "scientists." yes, they got their ph.d.'s and should be respected, but it's not exactly the same as a career research scientist working in the field of biology. wanna help me track these people down anyways? [edit] this is really frustrating. all i'm finding is copies of the list. it's like these people don't even exist. This message has been edited by arachnophilia, 08-27-2005 07:07 PM

Activity 1: contact details I would suggest that the first objection is to obtain contact details for the people on the list, clearly this activity is on-going. I am happy to keep hold of the master list for this (and try and track down some of the names). Arch seems to be a fine taskmaster so I reckon he's the best man to keep an eye on this. sure, i'll keep turning up emails as best as i can, too. other are free to help (please!). try to do it by institution, so we can keep it pretty simple.
Activity 2: questions and question areas The second aspect is to start to come up with the questions that we want to sent out. I suggest that we start a sister thread to this one to co-ordinate and discuss the questions that we want to ask? that's what i was thinking exactly. i'll probably propose a thread pretty soon about the questions. i have a few ideas, but i'll save it for the other thread.
Activity 3: Technical issues around sending out survey and collecting results I have a number of ideas about the most effective way to do this but I think we need to settle 1&2 first? yes, probably. my little brother is looking for a science fair project. so i might have him send out the questionaires. these people might be more prone to answer if it's coming from a 13 year old wanting to learn about science, and the id controversy.

there were supposed to be asterisk on the ones known to be dead by DI honestly, the way this is going so far, i'd rather independently confirm their deaths. i mean, so far we have homeschool-moms and excercise specialists being listed as scientists, just because they have a ph.d. in something.
One of the questions would have to be endorsing the same statement (we don't need to say that we know they are on the list) to see what the current response is. well, this is a tough question. because we also need to make sure we've found the right people. if they're not the right people, we'd have to discard the results.
One would also have to be a blatant endorsement of ID and one a complete rejection of ID. well, i'm thinking that we'll try to cover all of the bases: god, religion, evolution, creationism, id, school, etc. so basically there will be the option of selecting things like theistic evolution (what davidson seemed to be for) as well as a complete rejection of either side. but we'll hash this out a little later...
