Author | Topic: Delete all my posts, please. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Thanks, I don't believe a lot of the stuff I used to, or have revised it. I'd simply like all my posts removed, if you would. Thanks, I don't want people stumbling upon such silly things

Do we get the honor of knowing what your conversion was to/from or do I have to hurry and read all your posts before they're deleted (if the Admins actually do that, which I believe would be contradictory to the forum's mission in some ways).

We don't delete posts except when they contain spam and even then we just delete the offensive content. But don't worry. We have all posted pretty silly stuff we wish we could take back. I certainly don't remember you having even done that.

A quick perusal suggests that umliak may have lost his faith in dogmatic biblical literalism.

If he has a loss of faith, I hope he is okay, and he can read this topic Here if he is not.

Why wouldn't he be ok?
A loss of faith can be extremely liberating. It opens up enormous windows to truth and education of our world. It allows for personal morality not governed by superiority and pressure. Defining your own morals that are established by your own reason and logic, what you actually feel is right and wrong, is a brilliant experience. Not to mention shattering the glass ceiling of education and free thought.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but also, it can be a depressing thing aswell. Not that I know, but I know fellow believers and a person who has recently dealt with this. She seemed to take it not well. It can be bad aswell.
A lot of believers think that if God doesn't exist then the world becomes nihilist. Many might only have faith. It's loss of the positive remember. Because atheism is just a lack of belief in God/s, according to atheists like Crashfrog. This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 06-17-2005 12:13 PM

I believe in God, but I do not believe the Bible the infallible word of God, but a book written by man in an attempt, primitively, to express the truth in a limited form (words)--some of which may even be skewed (molested over time to people's own desires), wrong even, and writings of people worshiping a false God who was something other than pure love, ordering people to slaughter other people.
Aside from this, I don't believe that Jesus is the only son of God anymore, but that we are all sons and daughters of God, as we are all indeed gods likewise. As such, we are all individualizations of God, and I don't believe in a punishing God, nor a fiery hell. Now as you can see, if I have now come to this full acceptance, why would I want my posts suggesting a fiery hell is possible to be up anymore...? Or posts discussing Jesus to be the only son of God, or God, anymore? I certainly wouldn't, and I'd find it downright disgusting for anyone to keep them up. Let people know the truth, delete the lies!

But here is a suggestion.
You seem to be walking a wonderful path towards enlightenment and it's likely that many, many others are on the same journey. Your earlier posts and those you will make from here on may well mean the difference between someone coming to understand GOD and wandering off either into bigotry or total disbelief. They may well make a difference. Use them well. Let them stand as examples of the mistakes of youth. Let them stand as comparisons between you then, and you today. No one will think less of you, many will admire you and perhaps, just perhaps, your experiences will be useful to someone else. If he has a loss of faith, I hope he is okay, and he can read this topic Here if he is not. We hope (and see in his post) that he has not lost his faith at all. It is a stronger more sophisticated faith then the child-like faith he had before. I think that umiak and help others by showing them the steps needed to be able to be both rational and faithful. It is, as others here have found, a hard path to follow.

I like what AJ said in message 9.
Your "problem" has no easy solution. It is possible for you to track down your old messages, and to edit them to blank out the content. BUT THIS WOULD BE VERY BAD FORM, AND I ENCOURAGE YOU NOT TO DO SUCH! I perhaps should not even be mentioning this idea. What could be a better solution, would be to track the old messages down (you may wish to try to use a ID name search, forum by forum, at the sites search utility), and to then edit them by adding some sort of disclaimer message at the end of some or all of them. Doing searchs of individual forums will probably find more messages than doing an "All Open Forums" search, since (I think) each search result is limited to a certain number of messages. The disclaimer might be something along the lines of:
WARNING! - My beliefs have changed considerably since I posted this message. - Umliak (6/17/05) Adminnemooseus

To be honest, I find part or all of AJ's proposal to be quite disgusting, not to be personally offensive to his spirit, but I believe he has a mixed up belief on what is right and wrong concerning this issue.
It is not wise to linger on the past and offer others an insight into your mistakes--instead, it is better to simply be. And, when I say be, I mean be and transcend. You do not transcend by lingering on the past and comparing the new with the old...you do not grow by studying what's wrong in regard to one's override with right. No, you grow by moving away from what's wrong. Besides, the thread is closed, and as such, it'd simply be better to have someone remove all the posts. Negativity is not educational, we know it exists. Let us strive to move away from it, and you have my will, take it as an initiative. This being said, a disclaimer would be nice, and more educational...but as I said, the thread is closed =/ I am not an Admin here. Sorry

I think you missed the point. No one told you to live in the past.
This site is not only a forum but reference. To serve the greatest purpose there must be an archive. If everyone who joined this site deleted their posts after they had come to a new realization or changed their way of thinking, there would be no old posts. We all learn things here. The greatest gift history gives us is a record for not screwing up the future.

No, but I think it's best not to dwell on the past. Why keep the past flaws open to anyone? It'd be like somebody reading a book by Hitler teaching them horrible beliefs on why Naziism is ideal--when, in reality, Naziiism is absolutely not ideal, therefore the message should be either destroyed or we should make an effort to advise against it.
As I said, the thread is closed.

As I said, the thread is closed. I don't want any massive editings of old messages to happen, but if you tell me (or any other admin) what the topic in question is, it can be reopened such that you can add a (disclaimer?) message at the end. The topic can then be reclosed. Adminnemooseus
