Of course creationism should be taught in the classroom. People who are interested in what's true or false want to hear any theory. But those who are afraid of certain theories call the truth a "religion". Therefore classrom children can never hear the truth and make up their own minds. teaching only one theory about the creation of the world is called brainwashing, especially when no one was around to document this theory.

Of course creationism should be taught in the classroom. People who are interested in what's true or false want to hear any theory. So, you would be supportive of the teaching of Hindu creationism in the classroom? Navajo? Zoroasterian? Norse? Greek? Aborigenie? I'm down with that. Let's teach every single Creation story ever along side the Jewish creationism story and let the people look at all the "evidence".

Again this will be repeated. The Theory of Evolution has nothing to do with the creation or beginning of life. Do I have to define scientific theory again? A scientific theory is an explanation of factual data. It is not a guess it is not a hypothesis. Please try to understand what TOE is and what a scientific theory is before you spout off.

As someone who has a degree in Anthro, let me say that they really don't "need" to mention the book of Genesis when discussing evolution - however here's a likely explaination of why that happened.
***ALERT, TALKING POLITICS! THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL THREAD! DON'T RESPOND ABOUT THE POLITICS!*** Currently we are experiencing a "war on terror". As a result, almost every single speech the President gives, be it about Iraq, Social Security, Guest Worker status, etc, contains a "9/11" or "Al Queda" reference - often many. The "war on terror" is a big part of American politics right now. Scientists are in their own war right now - the "War on Religious Extremists". As a result, it's very hard for a scientist to address an issue which directly relates to the battlefield, without touching on our own "al queda" - "Creationists". The more important question is this: did the class answer your questions on Evolution? If not, would you like those questions answered at all? I'd be happy to help you out.

the problem is that in the american school system, from first grade we learn the same thing every year. we never have to actually learn it because we'll just review it next year.
i was taking an honors english class senior year of high school and we had to go over sentence structure and commas because these tards were too stupid to figure it out.

only in a base system where the base is greater than one.
in a base 1 system, 1+1=1 This message has been edited by brennakimi, 12-28-2005 11:03 AM

The problem with this is that their are an infinite number of possible "theories" using your definition of the word. Evolution is the only evidence supported theory I am aware of that describes the mechanism by which living things change over time. If we were to teach creation (which attempts to explain A LOT more than evolution does) we would have to also teach every single hypothesis that was ever developed to explain the origin of the world.
Yes, even including the flying spaghetti monster..... The answer is NOT to teach Intelligent design. I think the answer is to include a simple lesson at the beginning of each science class. 1. Science DOES NOT prove things 2. Scientific theories are NOT truth, they are simply the best explanations we can come up with to fit the available facts. They are subject to change at any point 3. Science is not about belief. In fact belief is completely irrelevant to science. Your computer will continue to work whether you believe in the free electron theory of metals or not. Gravity will continue to operate whether you beleive in all aspects of the theory or not. 4. Science does not disprove religion or god. In fact god is IRRELEVANT to science. Science does not care whether a god exists or not and has nothing to say in the matter. Science is not an attempt to disprove god, it is an attempt to explain evidence we find in the world around us. Nothing more, nothing less. 5. Everything you learn in science class is simply the current understanding we have concerning the way the world operates. Our understanding may/will change in the future and that is key to the whole process of science

in a base 1 system, 1+1=1 I know this is off topic, but surely in a base 1 system 1 + 1 = 11 ? A base 1 system would be a tally slate wouldn't it?

no. it's like a clock. base 12. 11+1=0, 11+2=1.
actually. 1+1 might = 0 in a base 1. how snazzy would that be?

I believe Mod is correct. A base 1 system (unary) is a tally system.

1 11 111 1111 11111 111111 Yup, base 1 is basically a tally system.

no. it's like a clock. base 12. 11+1=0, 11+2=1. In base 12, 1110* + 1 =10, just like in base 10 where 9 + 1 =10 In base 12, 1110 + 2 =11, the 'units' are units and the 'tens' are actually 'twelves'. So when we see 10 we have one twelve and no units, when we see 11 we have one twelve and one unit = 13 in base 10. You are right, it is like a clock, but you've still got to carry the ones, they don't vanish * Actually, if we consider both sides to be in base 12, 11 + 1 = 12 which is 14 in base ten (one twelve and two units) This message has been edited by Modulous, Wed, 28-December-2005 05:47 PM

Sorry to spoil the fun, but how about resuming the discussion of ID and its teaching.
