The Dig
That was an awsome Lucas Arts adventure game. It had an excelent plot, logical puzzles, multiple characters and great voice acting. While I thought Sam & Max were good, I found the puzzles to Trial&Error i.e. illogical.
Before the dig I would vote Kings Quest 6 then Beyond Zork, Tinity, and the Enchanter series.

Re: THE adventure game
... meh... it was ok.
I mean, I came to WoW hot off of FFXI... (which I hated). WoW was a better experience but it left the "same ol' MMO crap" taste in my mouth. No story, no real role-playing, no puzzles, no 'uniquness', just kill anything that moves.
Don't get me wrong, it's addictive, it's fun, but it's also 15$ a month for essentially a hack'n slash level-grind.
Which is why, my current online poison is Guild Wars It's free, you don't have to party with anybody, it has a decent amount of strategy, and an ok plot.

Re: THE adventure game
Did we play the same game? Did you play on one of the servers specifically dedicated to role-playing?
No. I didn't do that, maybe it would have been better that way. I was on a regular PvP server.
Did you delve into any of the instances, where problem-solving and puzzling are required to make it out alive?
I got to level 23 before I gave it up. I think I got to one instance area. IMHO if it takes that long to get to the game I want to play, I'd rather buy a game that has that from the get-go
Granted, I haven't played all that many MMO games, but I was orignally - and still am - astounded by a number of WOW's really obvious innovations, like weapons that don't disappear when you put them away, and mounts you can ride.
Oh ya, don't get me wrong, WOW is awsome! It's by far the best MMo I played. You are right to cite it as inovative etc. It's an excelent game, but to folks who played another MMO like FFXI, it just feels like more of the same. And that's a genera issue, not a game issue. I think the MMORPG genera is flawed.
Maybe that stuff is in the other games, but coming from solo RPG play (like NWN), that stuff blew my mind. It's so obvious and it improves immersion a hundred-fold.
Man, try Fallout and it's sequel Fallout 2, then tell me what blows your mind Those single player RPG's are incredible! No other game can touch that level of depth.
I hear you about the grind but it's the funnest grind I've ever played. And honestly, as perverse as it sounds, the real game doesn't even begin until you hit 60. It's like a 60-level tutorial on how to play your class, to get you ready for battlefields and the high-end instances.
Again, that's one of the flaws I see in the genera as a whole. The entie concept of a high-level game spoils my time
Eh, I tried it in the beta; had some fun with a Necro/Elementalist, and it is indeed fun to run around as a goth, but I don't like the way they set up their servers. I play WOW with a bunch of my buddies and, as long as we're all on the same server, we don't have to worry about zoning into the right shard or whatever; we're in the same world, always.
Thats fun, having buddys in the game. That's a real strong point. As far as GW, I like it cuz I can put it down and not play for weeks/months at a time, and I don't have to pay subscriptions. I can play at my own pace and still be able to interact with other people if I want.
The gameplay it'self is fast-pased and strategic though it can get kinda Diablo-like at times. Overal, it's not the best game ever, but it's fun, free, and I can play with my bro. whenever I want
